Newsflash: Ripple, purveyor of all things digital and mysterious, has unleashed its new shiny stablecoin, RLUSD, upon the world. And not just any old launch, no—Gemini (yes, the Winklevoss twins’ personal crypto playground since 2014) has gleefully rolled out the digital red carpet for RLUSD. Hold onto your latte!
Gemini Embraces RLUSD Like a Long-Lost Cousin at a Family Reunion
In classic 2025 style, the news broke not via boring old email, but courtesy of Reece Merrick, Ripple’s senior exec for the Middle East and Africa, who took to social media with all the subtlety of an air horn at yoga class:

RLUSD, the prodigal stablecoin, strutted onto the mainnet back in December 2024. Ripple is double-dipping on blockchains, minting RLUSD on both XRP Ledger and Ethereum. Naturally, Ethereum’s getting most of the action—call it the popular kid at the stablecoin school disco.
Loyal readers (hi, mum) will recall that post-launch RLUSD went on a world tour across major exchanges: Bullish, Bitstamp, and the ever-excitable LMAX Digital. And now, Gemini’s hopped on the bandwagon, proving once again that FOMO is alive and well even in the crypto sphere.
Ripple Donates Enough RLUSD to Fund an Army of Teachers (and Possibly a Few Class Hamsters)
If launching a stablecoin wasn’t enough excitement for one week, Ripple’s now throwing virtual money at US education—$25 million worth of RLUSD, to be exact. Beneficiaries include DonorsChoose and Teach For America. Or as I like to think of them, the only organizations in America capable of turning crypto into actual, tangible stuff for classrooms.
CEO Brad Garlinghouse, perfecting his “hero who brings pizza to the party” energy, hopes this move will inspire other crypto mega-corps to sprinkle some stablecoin fairy dust around. The plan: fund “thousands of classroom projects and teacher requests.” Probably also the occasional glitter pen emergency.
Over at Teach For America, Aneesh Sohoni is positively giddy, promising to use the funds for tutoring, innovation labs, and giving a lifeline to new teachers during the pandemic’s never-ending plot twists.
RLUSD: Minting Beans Has Gone Quiet (Did Someone Lose the Key?)
Here’s where things get spicy: Ripple hasn’t minted a single RLUSD since April 25, and no, it’s not because someone spilled coffee on the mint button. On that fateful day, three impressively large RLUSD bundles were unleashed: 11,500,000, another 11,500,000 (because one just isn’t enough), and a casual 15,000,000 RLUSD.

As if that wasn’t dramatic enough, 15 million RLUSD were also burnt to a crisp on the very same day. Poof! Since then, the mint is quieter than a blockchain at a tea party. Still, 317.04 million RLUSD are whizzing around out there, just waiting to be spent on… well, who knows? NFTs, vegan dog treats, probably a Lambo or two.
