Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind Tomb Raider, has announced another round of layoffs, marking the fourth time in the past year that the company has reduced its workforce. This time, twenty employees from the development and operations teams are affected.
This news comes after the studio experienced at least three rounds of layoffs last year, which might concern fans of Tomb Raider given that two major projects are currently underway. Despite this, the studio remains confident and appears to be continuing with its planned release dates.
We understand that this news may worry some people in our community. Crystal Dynamics is still dedicated to developing the Tomb Raider games we’ve already announced. Right now, though, our main focus is on supporting our team members who are leaving the company, as we shared on LinkedIn.
Two new Tomb Raider games are on the way: a reimagining of the 1996 title, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and a completely new adventure, Tomb Raider: Catalyst. Catalyst is designed to be easy for new players to pick up, but still offer plenty for longtime fans. With the last game, Shadows of the Tomb Raider, released in 2018, these releases are highly anticipated – and for good reason.
The studio has faced some challenges lately, but we’re optimistic they’ll be able to deliver a fantastic new Tomb Raider game that captures the spirit of the classic titles. Catalyst is scheduled for release next year, and Legacy of Atlantis will follow in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
