A sneak peek at an upcoming major overhaul for the popular indie roguelike game, “Cult of the Lamb,” has been released, set to arrive in early 2026. While the teaser offers only a glimpse into what’s to come, it certainly piques the interest of players. The latest update, titled “Woolhaven,” seems to blend elements of cozy games with survival mechanics, promising to further enrich the immersive experience of managing a cult within the game.
The trailer for Woolhaven, released alongside Gamescom, gives us a peek into the enigmatic past of the Lamb characters as they explore the snow-covered mountains of Yngya, a deified figure formerly known as the “God of the Lambs.
Atop the mountain’s summit, the protagonist, a lamb-like creature, discovers an antique sculpture of a multi-eyed lamb-like figure. Without hesitation, they revive its frozen spirit and summon a swarm of fleshy creatures across the mountainside. As the scene fades to black, signaling the end of the cinematic sequence, we transition into gameplay footage. The Lamb, appearing as white as snow, is now interacting with newly introduced mechanics in this mountainous setting. A 1-minute trailer has already revealed several of these new game mechanics, such as:
- Ranching: Players will be able to tame, breed, and harvest animals that provide critical resources for the survival of the cult in this new icy mountain environment. Some animals can be ridden, and cult followers can be trained to care for different rare animals. In the trailer, the Lamb is seen riding a large, horned, mammoth-like creature.
- Winter Survival: With a new biome comes new concerns for maintaining a thriving cult. Players will need to worry about managing their cult’s hunger and warmth as they are blanketed by freezing snow and wind. Based on the shown gameplay, players will need to install new buildings, such as hot springs and other sources of warmth, to fend off the chilly conditions.
- Reclaim an Ancient Town: In this new update, players will be tasked with reviving the old town of Woolhaven to its former glory, reclaiming souls to restore the lamb God Yngya’s power.
- New Content: The update promises two new dungeons and a host of new creatures corrupted with “rot” that will challenge the player as they fight through the snowy landscape. For perspective, the base game for Cult of the Lamb contained four main dungeons, so this new update will be adding a considerable percentage of new content for players to plow through.
In a recent Steam post, the developers announced that the forthcoming update for Woolhaven will include some of the late audio director, Narayana Johnson’s musical compositions and voice-overs, which he completed prior to his passing this year.
This post stated that these songs are among our all-time favorites he has produced. With assistance from Power Up Audio and Arrowbird, who have collaborated closely with Riverboy on the soundtrack for several years, they’ve helped shape Woolhaven’s sound based on Narayana’s work.
The announcement about the Woolhaven DLC expansion confirmed that players can anticipate a lot more than what has been hinted so far. The developers boasted that Woolhaven will offer significantly more content than any of their previous updates. Although the launch date for Woolhaven is scheduled for early 2026, eager fans of Cult of the Lamb should keep an eye out for further reveals in the meantime.
