The highly anticipated PS5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077 is now available, significantly enhancing the visual detail of Night City. A new trailer showcases these improvements, including impressive ray tracing effects.
With the improved PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology, Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS5 Pro can display a resolution that’s been boosted to near 4K quality. How the game performs and looks depends on which of three modes you choose. The first, Ray Tracing Pro, enables full ray tracing, including realistic lighting and shadows, and runs at 40 frames per second with a VRR display (or 30 FPS without).
Ray Tracing Mode delivers a smooth 60 frames per second, with ray-traced shadows and reflections – though these effects are limited to vehicle paint and clear objects. For maximum performance, Performance Mode runs at 60 FPS on standard screens and can reach up to 90 FPS on high refresh rate displays, making it the best choice if speed is your top priority.
Beyond these changes, we’ve also added features like Variable Rate Shading and an improved ray-tracing system called BVH8. You can find a complete list of updates in the patch notes, and learn more details from our Global Art Director and VP, Kuba Knapik.
It seems like new features for Cyberpunk 2077, which has sold over 35 million copies by November 2025, are unlikely from this point forward. While Cyberpunk 2 is in development – having entered pre-production in May 2025 – it will be a long wait before its release. The good news is the sequel will be set in a brand new city, described by creator Mike Pondsmith as a distorted version of Chicago.
