Good news for gaming enthusiasts! The highly praised animated series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” is coming back with a second season, officially titled “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.” CD Projekt RED, the developers of Cyberpunk 2077, made the announcement on Friday. They revealed that Studio Trigger will once again partner with them in producing this new season.
Bartosz Sztybor, showrunner, writer, and producer for “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2,” expressed excitement about the collaboration with Studio Trigger, stating, “David’s story may have ended, but there’s still so much more to explore in Night City. Working with Studio TRIGGER again allows us at CD PROJEKT RED to create a raw, authentic tale of redemption and revenge – something we haven’t done before.”
CD Projekt RED also unveiled new key art for the series, created by artist Kanno Ichigoon Bluesky. Ichigo will serve as the lead character designer for the project, while Kai Ikarashi takes on the role of director. Masahiko Otsuka is responsible for adapting the screenplay.
Just like the first season, “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” will feature 10 episodes, but there’s no release date set yet. However, when it becomes available, you can watch it exclusively on Netflix at launch.
I absolutely can’t wait
The initial run of Edgerunners stands out as an exceptional television show, offering stunning visuals and a poignant narrative that enhances the atmosphere conceived by Mike Pondsmith, creator of Cyberpunk 2020, and brought to life in the game by CD Projekt RED.
In essence, if you haven’t seen it yet, I strongly recommend finding the time to do so – be prepared for some tears along the way. The creative teams responsible for the next season should take their time to produce something equally evocative and moving. Whatever story they come up with, I’ll be eagerly anticipating it. Additionally, there’s speculation that this new season might offer a sneak peek into characters potentially appearing in the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
Speaking of sequels, pre-production for Cyberpunk 2077’s follow-up has started, with most of the work being done at CD Projekt RED’s studio in the US. This team includes several members who worked on the critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion, which has sold over 10 million copies since its release in 2023.
However, this upcoming game won’t be the next major project from CD Projekt RED that players can play; instead, that role falls to The Witcher 4, currently in full production and featuring Ciri as the main character. This game is still quite some time away and isn’t expected to launch before Fall 2027 at the earliest.
In the meantime, I’m also looking forward to the second season of the Fallout TV series, which is slated for release in December. The series has already been renewed for a third season as well.
