Three new science fiction shows arriving soon clearly show that cyberpunk is becoming popular again in 2026. While many important cyberpunk novels have been made into movies and TV series, the genre hasn’t always broken through to a wide audience. There have been some successful adaptations, like the classic film Total Recall starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report, both based on works by influential cyberpunk author Philip K. Dick.
Despite its enduring appeal, cyberpunk hasn’t always been successful – films like Johnny Mnemonic and even early reactions to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner were major disappointments. While Blade Runner is now considered a classic, it was initially seen as a failure. This illustrates how often opinions on cyberpunk have differed. However, with new projects like the upcoming Neuromancer series, season two of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Blade Runner 2099, it seems cyberpunk has finally found its footing in television.
Neuromancer Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 And Blade Runner 2099 Prove Cyberpunk TV Is Huge in 2026

The movie Neuromancer is based on William Gibson’s famous cyberpunk novel. It follows Case, a hacker who loses his ability to access cyberspace – known as ‘The Matrix’ – after being caught stealing. To get back online, he teams up with Molly, a skilled and dangerous woman, to carry out a complex robbery. Similar to the sci-fi film Total Recall, Neuromancer explores themes of virtual reality and digital copies within its mind-bending and captivating story.
Apple TV+’s upcoming series based on Neuromancer will star Callum Turner and Briana Middleton, alongside a strong supporting cast including Mark Strong, Clémence Poésy, and Dane DeHaan. Meanwhile, Amazon’s Blade Runner 2099 sequel will feature Michelle Yeoh – known for her Oscar-winning role in Everything Everywhere All At Once – as Olwen, a Replicant trying to survive. She’ll team up with Hunter Schafer’s character, Cora, in the dangerous Los Angeles of 2099.
Cyberpunk TV’s Future Looks Brighter Than Ever In 2026

We don’t have exact release dates for Neuromancer and Blade Runner 2099 yet, but they’re both anticipated to premiere between late 2026 and early 2027. If you’re eager for more sci-fi TV sooner, the first glimpse of season 2 of Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will arrive in July 2026.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime series based on the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. It takes place in the futuristic city of Night City and follows David Martinez, a student who becomes involved with a mysterious net runner named Lucy. She introduces him to the dangerous world of cyberpunks – mercenaries with cybernetic implants – and the city’s criminal side.
Following in the footsteps of classic cyberpunk heroes, David quickly rises to fame in Night City’s dangerous criminal world, but at the expense of his own humanity. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a thrilling and faithful adaptation of the video game, and it stands alongside titles like Neuromancer and Blade Runner 2099 as a standout addition to the growing landscape of sci-fi television.
