As a big movie buff, I’ve always been fascinated by vampires, but honestly, figuring out how to actually kill one in a film is surprisingly complicated! It’s rarely as simple as just sticking a stake through their heart. There’s usually this huge list of things you have to do exactly right, or they just come back for more. Luckily, there are a few reliable weaknesses. Sunlight is a classic, of course, but religious symbols seem to consistently work too. I’m talking crucifixes, the Star of David, even just a splash of holy water – those are usually your best bet for sending those undead creatures back to their coffins.
This is especially true in the Marvel Universe, where vampires are a recurring danger. Once, a massive vampire army almost defeated the X-Men. In the 2010 X-Men storyline “Curse of the Mutants,” Xarus, Dracula’s son, launched a full-scale attack on the mutant city of Utopia, aiming to destroy all mutants. He even turned Jubilee and Wolverine into vampires and surrounded the city. Facing overwhelming odds, Cyclops had to come up with a brilliant and unusual plan to save his people. Knowing vampires are vulnerable to holy water, he realized the X-Men had a mutant, Iceman, who was essentially made of water.
Iceman, the Holy Weapon

When Xarus’s army, now commanded by a transformed Wolverine, attacked the mutants’ last base, Cyclops and a powerful team of X-Men fought them off. Meanwhile, inside the base, a secret weapon inspired by Nightcrawler was being prepared. Cyclops had a priest bless Iceman, hoping that holy water – known to harm vampires – would infuse Iceman’s ice with holy power. It was a risky, over-the-top plan, typical of comic books – and incredibly, it worked! Iceman became a one-person army against the vampires.

Iceman recently received a powerful blessing that instantly destroys any vampire it touches – a fitting irony, given his powers! What’s even better is this blessing is permanent, making him the ultimate defense against vampires, even more reliable than sunlight. Already an incredibly powerful Omega-Level mutant capable of freezing the entire planet, Iceman now presents a fatal threat to vampires, turning them into easy targets. While this comic didn’t show enough of his new ability, fans can be confident that if vampires ever challenge the mutants again, Iceman is a guaranteed win.
