Daeron Targaryen’s Prophetic Dreams In A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms

After the third episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Aegon Targaryen, known as Egg (played by Dexter Sol Ansell), can no longer hide his true identity. Everyone now knows he’s a Targaryen prince, ending his disguise as a commoner. The fourth episode also reveals that the mysterious drunkard from the first episode is actually Egg’s brother, Daeron (Henry Ashton).

Aerion (Finn Bennett) tries to convince his father to let him participate in a trial by claiming his brother Daeron’s reputation was damaged when Dunk (Peter Claffey) took Egg. However, this is a lie. Daeron doesn’t want to fight Dunk and doesn’t even try to defend himself against Dunk’s accusations.

Instead of fighting, he apologized to Dunk, admitting he wasn’t a very honorable man. He even suggested that joining Aerion’s side could be beneficial for Dunk, given his skills as a fighter. Afterward, Daeron and Dunk spoke, and Daeron shared what seemed like the confused thoughts of someone who had been drinking. But knowing Daeron’s position, his words felt like a warning.

Daeron & Daenerys Targaryen Are Both Dreamers In The Game Of Thrones Universe

When we first encounter Daeron at the inn, he vaguely mentions dreaming about Dunk. He brings it up again in episode 4, seemingly forgetting he’d already said it. Daeron explains he dreamt of Dunk with fire and a dead dragon, and believes his dreams always come true.

Daenerys Targaryen, appearing a century later, also experienced prophetic dreams, much like her ancestor. In both the Game of Thrones series and the A Song of Ice and Fire books, she has several, with a particularly memorable one featuring a black dragon covering her in flames. This dream foreshadows her eventual birth of three dragons.

There Have Been Several Important Dreamers In The Targaryen Family Tree

As a long-time fantasy fan, I was really intrigued by the connection between Daenerys and Daeron, and it turns out their shared experiences aren’t unique to them. Apparently, these vivid dreams are actually quite common within the Targaryen family – they’re even called ‘dragon dreams’! Throughout history, these prophetic visions have helped the Targaryens gain power, and it’s fascinating to see that tradition continuing with these characters. It adds a really cool layer to their story and the overall lore.

Daenys Targaryen, known as ‘The Dreamer,’ had a vision of the destruction of Valyria. This dream led her father, Aenar Targaryen, to move his family away from Valyria more than a century before Aegon’s invasion of Westeros. Some believe Aegon himself was inspired to begin his conquest after experiencing a prophetic dream.

In Game of Thrones, Maester Aemon (played by Peter Vaughan) starts having visions of dragons as he gets closer to death. While Daenerys’ dragon dreams in the series helped her understand her purpose, the dreams experienced by Daeron in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms seem to foreshadow the downfall of the Targaryen family.
