Damson Idris recently responded to rumors that he might join the Black Panther universe, and his answer surprised a lot of fans. After appearing alongside Brad Pitt in the hit movie F1: The Movie, Idris has been a popular pick in online discussions about who should play T’Challa. When asked about the possibility again, his reaction definitely made things more interesting.
During the TIME100 Next Gala, Damson Idris was asked if he was being considered to play Black Panther. He immediately dismissed the rumor, stating, “No, no. I don’t know anything about it.”
What really got people talking wasn’t what the Formula 1 driver said, but how he reacted. He started smiling immediately when the interviewer brought up Black Panther, leading fans to believe he might be hiding something.

This conversation happened shortly after Idris Elba was seen with Angela Bassett, star of Black Panther, at the Vogue World: Hollywood event. This sparked renewed fan speculation about who might take over the role of T’Challa. Idris also took pictures with other Marvel Cinematic Universe actors like Danai Gurira, Elizabeth Debicki, Laura Harrier, and Jeff Goldblum, which increased the online excitement even more.
It’s interesting how Idris Elba is now being more reserved when asked about playing Black Panther. Back in June, he said he’d accept the role if offered. This shift in his response suggests there may have been further discussions, and he’s now keeping those details private.
Many fans believe the 34-year-old actor would be perfect to take over the role previously played by Chadwick Boseman, and social media is full of positive reactions to the idea.

Currently, Letitia Wright continues to play the role of Shuri as Black Panther, and she’s expected to appear in the 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday. Despite Michael B. Jordan’s comments, his recent smile has sparked fan speculation that he may return for Black Panther 3, which Marvel Studios and Ryan Coogler are reportedly planning after Secret Wars.
How Could T’Challa Be Recast (He’s Dead)?

Replacing T’Challa is a sensitive issue for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever beautifully honored Chadwick Boseman’s memory by having Shuri take on the role. Marvel Studios hasn’t directly tried to recast the part, but fans are still wondering how T’Challa could reappear in a way that respects Boseman’s legacy.
Many believe Damson Idris, or potentially another actor, will play T’Challa’s son, Prince T’Challa II. This character was first shown in a scene after the credits of the movie Wakanda Forever.
With the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars movies exploring the multiverse, Marvel could introduce an older version of the young prince and establish him as the new Black Panther in the main storyline. While a recasting of T’Challa is also possible, sources suggest it won’t be Idris Elba. Previously, David Jonsson, known for The Long Walk, was rumored to be a potential candidate for the role.
If the filmmakers decide to introduce a new king to Wakanda to conclude the Black Panther trilogy, honoring Chadwick Boseman’s memory by focusing on his character’s son feels like the most fitting and narratively sound approach.
