Rumors are swirling that Damson Idris, known for his roles in F1 and Snowfall, could be Marvel’s next Black Panther. The speculation has been building for a while, and recently gained new momentum. This comes after the heartbreaking loss of Chadwick Boseman, who originally played T’Challa, in 2020. Marvel has been cautious about recasting the role, and fans have been split on the idea. To address this, the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever passed the title of “Black Panther” to Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright) while letting T’Challa’s character pass away. Now, with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies, Marvel has a chance to reimagine the Black Panther franchise and introduce a new T’Challa.
With the complex storylines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s recent “Multiverse Saga,” many fans believe the upcoming Secret Wars movie will essentially restart the franchise, changing things up and potentially recasting actors. This creates a perfect chance to introduce a new Black Panther – perhaps a younger version of T’Challa from another universe. Another possibility is seeing Damson Idris take on the role of T’Challa II, the young boy presented as the new king and Nakia’s son in Wakanda Forever. Whether it’s through a time jump or alternate timelines, Idris could play T’Challa as he enters adulthood and takes on the responsibilities of being a prince.
Damson Idris Responds to MCU Black Panther Rumors (And Gives Fans Hope)

At the TIME 100 Next Gala, rising star Damson Idris spoke with the event’s host about his career. The conversation naturally turned to rumors about him potentially being in Black Panther, and while Idris didn’t confirm anything directly, his body language seemed to hint at the possibility, despite keeping details under wraps.
When asked about potentially becoming the new Black Panther at Marvel Studios, Damson Idris reportedly said, “No, no. I don’t know anything about it.” However, it seems unlikely he wouldn’t be aware of the extensive rumors and the massive success of the Black Panther movie and franchise, especially given years of speculation about him replacing Chadwick Boseman.
We’ve shared a photo from the interview (available HERE). Take a look and let us know: does Damson Idris’s subtle smile suggest he’s already aligning with the official stance?
For several months, rumors have circulated that Marvel Studios has already chosen the actor who will play the new T’Challa. While Damson Idris is the name most often mentioned, it hasn’t been officially confirmed. Reporter Jeff Sneider discussed this on his podcast, stating that while he’s unsure if Idris will get the role, David Jonsson is also a strong contender. No one has been able to disprove the idea that a decision has already been made.
As a huge movie fan, I’ve been really excited about both Damson Idris and David Jonsson lately. They both had major films released this summer! While Idris starred in F1 alongside Brad Pitt, Jonsson took on a role in the Stephen King adaptation, The Long Walk. Honestly, I think Jonsson’s character—a tough but good-hearted kid—actually feels more like the T’Challa we know and love than Idris’s F1 driver. It’s funny because Idris’s character in F1 was all about a new star rising to take the place of a legend, which feels like a perfect run-through for everything he’d need to do as Black Panther in Black Panther 3. It almost felt like an extended audition!
Damson Idris is widely considered the most suitable actor to succeed Chadwick Boseman, and he seems prepared for the intense public attention that will come with the role. This interview with TIME could be the start of him addressing those expectations.
