A paranormal investigator‘s sudden death has sparked a new mystery.
Daniel Rivera, who was leading a nationwide tour showcasing the authentic Annabelle doll, famously depicted in the Conjuring film series, tragically passed away after an encounter with the New England Society of Psychic Research (NESPR) in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was 54 years old.
With a heavy heart, Tony, Wade, and I announce the unexpected death of our dear friend and colleague, Dan Rivera. This tragic news was shared by NESPR lead investigator Chris “Jeek” Gilloren on the group’s Facebook page on July 14th. We are devastated and are finding it hard to come to terms with this loss.
Gilloren pondered on Rivera’s lasting impact, expressing, “Dan was deeply committed to imparting his encounters with the supernatural and enlightening others. His kindness and enthusiasm left an indelible mark on every person fortunate enough to know him.
He added, “Thank you for your support and kind thoughts during this difficult time.”
Rivera’s exact cause of death remains undisclosed, as per the Adams County Coroner’s records reviewed by USA Today, it is marked as “yet to be determined.
Emergency services were dispatched to a hotel in Gettysburg on the night of July 13, as they received reports of someone performing CPR on a 54-year-old man. This information was gathered from the Adams County dispatch center logs, which were obtained by the media outlet.
A day ago, NESPR had an exhibition featuring the Annabelle doll, which served as the basis for the terrifying character seen in the Conjuring horror movie series.
The doll is usually stored at the museum dedicated to the occult, which was established by demonologist Ed Warren and his medium wife Lorraine Warren (portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in the films), located in Monroe, Conn.
As a devoted follower, I learned from the official site that the chilling tale of Annabelle started back in 1968, when a nursing student like myself received a Raggedy Ann doll as a present.
On the NESPR site, it’s stated that she takes it home, where she resides with a flatmate. Shortly after, the flatmates became aware of peculiar happenings involving the doll, and they encountered a medium who informed them that the doll was inhabited by the spirit of a young girl named Annabelle. Trying to accommodate the doll’s spirit and appease it, the flatmates instead experienced malicious and aggressive behavior from it.
During that period, the Warrens were summoned for an investigation, concluding that the doll was infested with a “demonic influence.
According to the information provided, they took the doll out of the house and placed it inside a glass case to keep the mischievous spirit trapped within.
NESPR’s Devils On The Run Tour offers an “unsettling encounter” featuring a doll said to bring bad luck, injuries, or worse to individuals who don’t handle it carefully.
For more than ten years prior to his passing, as stated on the NESPR website, Rivera dedicated himself to exploring and investigating unexplained phenomena in the paranormal realm.
His bio mentions that from a young age, he became familiar with eerie occurrences. This is because strange supernatural incidents took place within his own home.
Besides serving as a U.S. army veteran, this individual also identified as well-versed in the practices and ceremonies of Santeria, originating from Connecticut.
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom states that Santería is a religion that heavily draws from the traditions of the Yoruba and includes aspects of Catholicism. About 70% of Cubans currently practice Santería or other religions rooted in African traditions, either individually or together with some form of Catholicism.
