Founded in 2013, Science SARU is an animation studio known for its distinctive style and quality storytelling. While they’ve created several visually impressive anime series and films over the years, they initially remained somewhat under the radar, choosing original stories over big manga adaptations. That changed in 2024 with the release of Dandadan, which brought them to a much wider international audience. Based on a manga from Shonen Jump+, Dandadan has proven popular, with a second season in 2025 and a third planned for 2027. Science SARU consistently develops new projects, each with a unique artistic vision, making them stand out in the anime world – a great example is Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia.
A first look at the upcoming anime, including a teaser and key visual, was released on December 27, 2025. It’s planned to premiere in July 2026 as part of the summer season, with a specific date to be announced later. Fans will also be pleased to know that the manga, created by Tomato Soup, will return on March 25, 2026, after a break since October 2025. The manga paused publication due to Tomato Soup’s maternity leave, and its resumption was announced on February 24th via the manga’s official X account.
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Is a Story of Survival

The story takes place in the 13th-century Mongol Empire, ruled by the powerful Genghis Khan – considered the largest empire in history. A young girl named Sitara is lost and alone, having been separated from her mother and forced to leave her home. Unable to fend for herself, she ends up in a slave market where a kind family of scholars rescues her. They offer her a home and an education, sharing all their knowledge. Meanwhile, Emperor Genghis Khan relentlessly expands his empire through conquest, seeking even greater power.
I recently learned about a new anime series, and it sounds fascinating. It’s about a girl named Sitara, whose quiet life is turned upside down when a powerful ambition arrives in her town, setting her on a completely new path. While details about the characters and who will voice them haven’t been released yet, the team behind the series has been announced. Naoko Yamada, known for directing beautiful films like A Silent Voice and The Colors Within, will be the general director. Abel Gongora will direct, and Kenichi Yoshida, with experience at Studio Ghibli, is handling the character design. I’m really excited to see how this all comes together!
While a streaming platform hasn’t been announced yet, the anime will air on TV Asahi and its network of stations throughout Japan. Details about where to stream it online will be released closer to the premiere date. The anime will also be featured at AnimeJapan 2026, taking place at Tokyo Big Sight on March 28th and 29th, 2026. The original manga is published digitally in Japan by Akita Shoten in their Souffle magazine, and currently has five volumes available. Yen Press is releasing the English version of the manga, titled A Witch’s Life in Mongol.
