Guy Ritchie is directing a new movie based on the popular 2004 film Layer Cake, and Jason Statham will play the role originally made famous by Daniel Craig.
The upcoming film, Viva La Madness, is inspired by JJ Connolly’s 2011 novel of the same title. While Connolly also wrote Layer Cake, Viva La Madness will be a completely separate and original story, not connected to his previous work, as reported by Variety.
The first movie closely followed the original story, focusing on a secretive drug dealer in London, codenamed X, who intends to leave the business but gets caught up in a risky operation.
The movie was led by Craig, in a role that reportedly led to his casting as James Bond in 2005.
While the exact story of Ritchie’s new movie is still unknown, it will continue the adventures of X (Statham), who has retired from crime and started a new life in the Caribbean.
His quiet life is disrupted when two British gangsters arrive on the island where he lives.

Currently, Jason Statham is the only actor confirmed for ‘Viva La Madness.’ Guy Ritchie is writing and directing the film.
The film is produced by Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson of Toff Guy Films, Jason Statham through his company Punch Palace, Thomas Benski of Lumina Studios, and John Friedberg of Black Bear.
Production is set to kick off in January 2026.
