Daniel Radcliffe is activating his wishing wand.
As Dominic Laughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout get ready to take on the roles previously played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the new TV series based on J.K. Rowling’s books, the 36-year-old actor is asking fans for their support.
Daniel Radcliffe recently shared that while people expressed concern for him, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint after they were cast, he wishes fans would stop constantly asking about their well-being. He explained to ScreenRant that respecting their privacy is a way to truly ‘look out for’ them, as many claimed they wanted to do.
He stressed that they shouldn’t become distant or unsettling figures in their children’s lives, and instead allow them to move forward and experience this new chapter, as things are going to be different now.
Daniel Radcliffe, best known for playing Harry Potter in all eight movies, encourages fans to give this new adaptation a chance. He’s already sure Dominic will do a great job as Harry. Arabella will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair will play the red-haired Ron Weasley.
Daniel admitted that he thinks Dominic will surpass him. Reflecting on his own past work, he feels more forgiving and less ashamed, realizing he was simply learning the ropes for a long time.
Daniel Radcliffe, who starred in the Guns Akimbo film, wants the new cast of the Harry Potter series to shine without being compared to the original films. He doesn’t want his work—or his knowledge of the complicated spells—to take attention away from this new generation. He’s confirmed that he and other original cast members won’t be making cameos in the series.
He told TopMob News in May 2024 that he doesn’t believe a crossover between the two shows will happen, as producers seem to prefer keeping them distinct. He thinks this is a smart decision and he’s content with simply watching as a fan, just like everyone else.

The show will give fans a more detailed look at the original stories than the movies did. Lox Pratt, taking over the role of Draco Malfoy from Tom Felton, has mentioned that the series will delve into the character’s past.
The actor shared that viewers will get a glimpse of Draco Malfoy’s home life, promising some compelling scenes that reveal more about his character. He explained that in the films, Draco often came across as a one-dimensional villain, and the new content aims to explore the motivations behind his behavior.
He explained that this new version of the story goes further than the original books. He noted that the books are told primarily from Harry’s perspective, and the films followed that approach as well.

They also expressed gratitude to the many children who auditioned, noting the wealth of young talent they discovered during the process.

Up-and-coming actor Lox Pratt will be taking on the role of Slytherin, following Tom Felton’s departure. Felton is moving to Broadway to play the older version of Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.

HBO revealed in June 2025 that Johnny Flynn, known for his role in Ripley, will be playing Lucius Malfoy. Reports surfaced in December 2024 that Paapa Essiedu, a British actor known for his Emmy nomination and roles like the one in the HBO series I May Destroy You, is being considered to play Professor Snape. The role was famously played by the late Alan Rickman in the Harry Potter films.

John Lithgow, a highly respected actor, will play the role of Professor Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO series. He’s known for his work in shows like Conclave, Dexter, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and The Crown. Lithgow has also received numerous accolades throughout his career, including six Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two Tony Awards, and two Academy Award nominations.
John Lithgow admitted making the decision to take the role wasn’t simple. He told ScreenRant in February 2025 that he knew the part would likely be how people remember him for the rest of his life. Despite turning 87 during filming, he happily accepted the offer, saying, ‘I’ve said yes!’
Dumbledore was previously played by the late Richard Harris and then by Michael Gambon.

Daniel Rigby, a BAFTA-winning actor, is taking on the role of Harry Potter’s Uncle Vernon in the HBO Max series. He shared on Instagram that he’s excited to play what he calls ‘the world’s worst muggle.’ The part was famously played by Richard Griffiths, who passed away in 2013.

McTeer has a long and successful career, with previous roles in popular shows like Ozark, Jessica Jones, and Sorry for Your Loss. The role of McGonagall was famously played by Dame Maggie Smith in the Harry Potter films.

Okay, you guys, I’m FREAKING OUT! HBO just announced that Paul Whitehouse – yes, the Paul Whitehouse, a comedy genius and five-time BAFTA winner – is going to be Filch! Filch! Can you believe it?! I was a little surprised at first, since David Bradley was so perfect, but honestly, I trust them. And get this – this is the best part – he was already in one of the movies! He played Sir Cadogan in Prisoner of Azkaban! Like, a talking portrait! It’s just… it’s perfect casting, honestly. I’m so excited to see what he does with the role! I’ve been a fan for ages, and this is just… amazing!

Three new young actors will play Harry’s classmates Seamus Finnigan, Parvati Patil, and Lavender Brown. These roles were previously held by Devon Murray, Shefali Chowdhury, and Jessie Cave.

As a bit of exciting news for fans, I recently heard that the incredibly talented Bertie Carvel will be taking on the role of the Minister of Magic! It’s a part that many of us fondly remember being played by the late Robert Hardy in the Harry Potter films – he truly brought Cornelius Fudge to life, and it’ll be fascinating to see Bertie’s take on the character.

Luke Thallon, a theater actor and potentially the least familiar face in the new cast, will play Harry’s first Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Ian Hart previously played Quirrell, a memorable character in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
