In the second season of “Peacemaker” on HBO Max, it’s not just Chris Smith/John Cena who’s getting a makeover. Danielle Brooks and Freddie Stroma, stars of the DCU show, spoke with ComicBook about the upcoming season and the development of their characters. Specifically, Brooks, an Oscar nominee, talks about her character Leta Adebayo, a Project Butterfly operative and Amanda Waller’s (Viola Davis) daughter. Brooks explains that Leta has found a new sense of self in the second season and has become a source of stability for the eccentric group in “Peacemaker” after fans felt somewhat frustrated with her character in Season 1.
In the final episode of Season 1 of “Peacemaker”, viewers last saw Adebayo exonerating Peacemaker and Vigilante, revealing her mother’s part in Project Butterfly and Task Force X, and reconnecting with her wife Keeya (Elizabeth Faith Ludlow). Although Season 2 of “Peacemaker” shows that Adebayo’s personal life is in turmoil, the development she experienced throughout the previous season continues.
In Brook’s reflection on Adebayo’s mindset from the previous season, he noted that Leota initially seemed unsure and even flustered. However, with the support of her Project Butterfly teammates, known as the 11th Street Kids, she became more stable and secure. As Brooks observed, in the beginning of Season 1, Leota expressed doubts about her abilities, stating, “I’m not cut out for this.” Yet, a few episodes later, when it was time to take action, she confidently declared, “You know what? I actually am up to the task.
In Season 1, Adebayo was strongly associated with her mother, but through her unwilling participation in Project Butterfly and the blossoming relationship with Peacemaker, Brooks masterfully showed Adebayo growing into her own person. However, it seems that this growth might not be without complications, as Brooks suggests that Adebayo could face conflicts not only with Waller but also with her partner Keeya in this season.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that according to Brooks, in the upcoming Season Two, we’ll witness our favorite character breaking free from the expectations of others. She’s determined to live for herself rather than for her mother or wife, and the season will follow her journey as she navigates this newfound independence.
In the upcoming Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” Adebayo might find it essential to have a solid self-awareness and stay grounded, as the series delves into various dimensions. Simultaneously, Rick Flagg Sr., portrayed by Frank Grillo, along with A.R.G.U.S., pursue Peacemaker in an attempt to seek retribution for the death of Rick Flagg Jr.
