Danny Dyer hinted at further developments for the star-crossed pair, Freddie and Lizzie, in the second season of Rivals, as their romantic storyline is expected to intensify.
In the initial run of Jilly Cooper’s ‘bonkbuster’ series, audiences developed a fond affection for Freddie, a working-class-turned-affluent electronics magnate portrayed by Dyer, who became captivated by Lizzie Vereker (played by Katherine Parkinson), a married woman within the Cotswolds social circle.
In spite of both being married to different individuals – Freddie to a social climber named Valerie, and Lizzie to someone else – their romantic tension persisted and escalated throughout the series. Ultimately, they succumbed to their feelings in the season finale, secretly escaping for a romantic encounter in the garden.
With their future filled with potential, enthusiasts can’t wait to find out about the fate of the pair, and in an interview with TopMob magazine, Dyer hints at revealing answers during the upcoming season 2.

He shared that he couldn’t disclose many details, but he assured us that there was no concern about the ‘second album syndrome’ affecting our new project.
I’m fortunate to have a charming personality. He doesn’t necessarily have to be the main character, just like Katherine, who also shines without being the lead.
“And yes, we do get a bit more Freddie and Lizzie this time around.”
In 2024, the TV series “Rivals,” set in the fictional county of Rutshire during the ’80s and revolving around a circle of ambitious television executives and their middle-class social group, was a massive success on Disney+ upon its debut.
In 2026, you’ll find the second series underway, being shot right now in Bristol. The story continues with the team, who find themselves split between two competing broadcasting stations.

In addition to Dyer and Parkinson, there will be a return of popular actors such as David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner, Emily Atack, and Bella Maclean.
Prior to the return of Rivals, Dyer will make his next appearance as Lee in the popular Sky series, Mr Bigstuff – a role that earned him his first BAFTA Award this year.
On the 24th of July, when fresh episodes air, Lee and his sibling Glen (portrayed by Ryan Sampson) will need to team up in order to locate their father, whom they uncovered at the end of last season as having staged his own demise and relocated overseas.
