A key feature of the new *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* movie is its focus on smaller, more personal stories for Peter Parker. This is a shift in direction for the series, which has recently featured large-scale threats like alien invasions and multiverse adventures. Given this move towards a more realistic and grounded feel, it’s fitting that Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as the Punisher, creating a link to the *Daredevil: Born Again* series. Recent Marvel updates suggest these two projects will actually share quite a bit in common, beyond just this one character appearance.
Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum recently told *Entertainment Weekly* that the teams working on Season 2 of *Daredevil: Born Again* and the *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* movie have been collaborating closely. He explained they’re ensuring the two projects connect seamlessly, saying, “We’re in constant communication to maintain consistency. We want to avoid spoilers, but it’s important to know these stories take place in the same universe.”
Why Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Daredevil: Born Again Need To Be Connected

Given the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it made sense for the *Brand New Day* and *Daredevil: Born Again* storylines to connect. Wilson Fisk is now the mayor of New York and has created a team to get rid of vigilantes. *Daredevil: Born Again* already hinted at Spider-Man, showing Fisk is watching him and likely planning a move. It would have been strange if *Brand New Day* didn’t acknowledge the political situation in New York City. It appears Peter Parker, while trying to be a helpful local hero, will also have to contend with people working for Fisk.
Unlike *Thunderbolts*, which didn’t mention Kingpin or his team while focusing on the Void, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* seems to be doing things differently. The decision to keep *Thunderbolts* self-contained was intentional, and it will be interesting to see how audiences react to *Brand New Day*. Even Marvel boss Kevin Feige has acknowledged that the MCU has become overly complicated, and it now feels like you’ll need to watch a two-season TV show to fully understand the new movies. The fact that these projects are so closely connected suggests a strong, overarching storyline.
Marvel is keeping the plot of *Brand New Day* a secret, but it looks like organized crime will play a role. Actor Marvin Jones III has been cast as Lonnie Lincoln, better known as the villain Tombstone. In the comics, Tombstone battles other crime bosses for Mayor Fisk’s approval, and since Fisk is already the mayor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that storyline might be part of the film. Besides Tombstone, rumors suggest other underworld figures, like Mister Negative, could appear. The movie might even feature Spider-Man and Punisher teaming up to stop a dangerous gang war.
Excitement is building for the second season of *Daredevil: Born Again*, especially after the dramatic ending of Season 1. Fans are eager to see Matt Murdock gather allies and challenge Fisk’s control. The connection to *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* adds to the anticipation, and viewers will be watching for hints about how the show sets up the upcoming movie. While a cameo from Tom Holland is unlikely due to the Disney/Sony agreement, expect plenty of Easter eggs that foreshadow next summer’s blockbuster.
