Daredevil: Born Again Officially Won’t Have Other MCU Cameos (& Here’s Why)

MCU fans love seeing heroes make surprise appearances, but the upcoming seasons of Daredevil: Born Again will focus on characters within that show’s universe. While cameos thrilled audiences in films like Spider-Man: No Way Home (where Daredevil first appeared in the MCU) and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (featuring a team-up with She-Hulk), Born Again will primarily feature characters from the Daredevil and Netflix Marvel worlds – like the returns of Kingpin and Punisher, and a guest appearance by Jessica Jones. You won’t see any heroes from the big MCU movies making cameos, though.

Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again, told SFX Magazine (as reported by Deadline) that the series will tell its own stories and won’t feature crossovers with the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though characters like Daredevil and Punisher have appeared in Spider-Man movies, those appearances won’t be part of the Daredevil series going forward. Scardapane explained that while characters might occasionally appear in MCU films, the show will focus on a smaller, more detailed story.

Why It’s Better to Keep Daredevil Self-Contained On Disney+

Marvel intends for the Daredevil: Born Again series to exist separately from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe films, so characters like Spider-Man likely won’t appear. However, Daredevil can still participate in larger MCU movies, potentially even Avengers: Secret Wars. Crossovers with other Disney+ shows, like we’ve already seen, are also possible. According to one of the show’s producers, they envision the series as taking place in a more grounded, street-level world – “a pocket” focused on Hell’s Kitchen and New York City – distinct from the broader, more expansive events of the main MCU.

So, just because Daredevil: Born Again is focusing on street-level stuff doesn’t mean we won’t see some smaller characters pop up. And honestly, it even opens the door for heroes from other Disney+ shows! Remember Swordsman showing up in Hawkeye before he was in the first season of the Daredevil series? That could mean characters like Kate Bishop or Ironheart could realistically appear. Though, someone with a big movie presence, like Ms. Marvel, might be a different story. But don’t get your hopes up for seeing Clint Barton as Hawkeye or Sam Wilson’s Captain America show up to fight Kingpin – and you know what? That’s totally okay. It keeps the focus where it needs to be, and I’m actually really glad about that.

The first couple of seasons of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD were difficult because the show tried too hard to tie into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, even referencing events from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But the show really found its footing when it stopped worrying about the MCU and started telling its own, independent stories. Agents of SHIELD was at its strongest when it focused on its own unique narratives.

For Daredevil: Born Again to remain a top-tier Marvel TV show, it needs to focus on its own stories. The show’s creators understand this, and to succeed, it shouldn’t get bogged down in trying to match up with the events of Spider-Man movies or the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. By creating a self-contained world where viewers can simply enjoy the gritty, street-level action, Daredevil: Born Again can deliver a more satisfying experience.
