In about a month, the upcoming Disney+ series “Daredevil: Born Again” will showcase its TV-MA rating, hinting at a graphic depiction of violence that might surprise some viewers, given Disney’s reputation for family-friendly entertainment. With characters like Mickey Mouse and theme parks, Disney is typically associated with fun and safety for all ages. However, “Daredevil: Born Again” promises a departure from the norm, featuring more intense violence and gore compared to typical Disney content. The latest promotional video serves as a warning and a tantalizing glimpse into what viewers can expect from this gritty series.
In the introductory TV ad for “Daredevil: Born Again,” Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox) begins with a voiceover, saying, “I was taught to believe in redemption… that we can morph into a superior individual. I was also taught to believe in retribution.” The scene swiftly transitions between Matt in civilian attire and his Daredevil character, while graffiti showcasing the “Daredevil: Born Again” logo adorns a wall. Rapid glimpses of various action scenes from “Daredevil: Born Again” are shown, along with hints of upcoming appearances by characters such as Punisher, Bullseye, and Muse.

The promo for “Daredevil: Born Again” continues, reminding us that the two-episode premiere is coming up on March 4th, which is quickly approaching. This series marks the comeback of Marvel’s street-level heroes and villains from Netflix, who took a break after their shows were cancelled. We’ve already seen Matt Murdock and his persona, Daredevil, reappear in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”, and “Echo”, while Wilson Fisk (portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio) has shown up in both “Hawkeye” and “Echo”. However, “Daredevil: Born Again” will reunite them for another high-stakes confrontation.
Regarding the depiction of violence in the series “Daredevil: Born Again”, the showrunner, Dario Scardapane, has shared some insights into the intensity of violent scenes viewers might encounter. Interestingly, he mentioned that this level exceeds what was presented in the Netflix version of Daredevil.
He shared with Empire Magazine that the intensity of violence in this Marvel/Disney show is exceptionally high. “There’s nothing else close in terms of violence, not even on Netflix,” he said. “One scene, in particular, is completely over-the-top and exceeds anything they’ve ever done.
Vincent D’Onofrio, one of the stars, mentioned that there could have been a scenario where if the show continued, we might have ended up in a similar place. However, he emphasized that we’ve ventured beyond the original concept, delving deeper into the mystery, action, and grittiness.
