Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Is Officially Doing the Last Villain Redemption Story I Expected

The start of Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is already delivering what fans have been hoping for. In the premiere episode, “The Northern Star,” Daredevil (Charlie Cox) takes down a cargo ship – The Northern Star – which was carrying important goods for Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). In retaliation, Kingpin increases the pressure on Daredevil and anyone connected to him, using his new task force, the Anti-Vigilante Task-Force (AVTF).

The second season of Daredevil begins with Matt desperately trying to rescue his friend and former detective, Cherry, from a dangerous team called the AVTF. He’s losing the fight until someone unexpectedly shoots all of the AVTF officers, then leaves a knife as a strange message at the scene.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were stunned by the dramatic rescue of Matt and Cherry. This reveal sets the stage for a surprising redemption story in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.

Bullseye Is A ‘Good Guy’ In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

It appears Dex Poindexter, also known as Bullseye (Wilson Bethel), is still focused on Matt Murdock, but his motives have changed. Rather than trying to harm Daredevil or those around him, Dex is now strangely watching over Matt, almost like a protective—or perhaps menacing—guardian.

The third season of Netflix’s Daredevil showed how Wilson Fisk found and trained Dex Poindexter to become Bullseye, even briefly posing as Daredevil himself. Eventually, Dex realized Fisk was manipulating him and rebelled, resulting in a violent confrontation. Dex suffered a broken back, but was later rebuilt with cybernetic enhancements and hired by Vanessa Fisk to kill Foggy Nelson, protecting their operation of a global illegal trade hub at the Red Hook port. After Foggy’s death, Matt nearly killed Dex in a fight, leaving him severely injured.

Matt’s rage unexpectedly freed Dex. After Matt attacked Dex in prison, injuring him, Dex cleverly used a broken tooth as leverage to secure his release and resume his plans. Previously, Bullseye attempted to kill Wilson Fisk at a gala, but Matt intervened, taking the bullet for him. Dex managed to escape, and his intentions remained a mystery… until now.

Now that Fisk has outlawed masked vigilantes in New York City, Bullseye is in just as much danger as Daredevil, especially considering their personal history. It’s surprising, then, that Dex is choosing to help Daredevil instead of exploiting the situation to eliminate him – his complex psychology, as explored in Season 3 of the Netflix series Daredevil, suggests he’s capable of either. The show intensified the rivalry between Daredevil and Bullseye, making it even more intense than the comics. And with Foggy’s recent murder still fresh in Matt’s mind, it’s difficult to imagine him easily cooperating with Dex.

Daredevil: Born Again Showrunner Teases Bullseye’s Season 2 Arc

Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, recently discussed Season 2 with ComicBook. He explained that a key part of Bullseye’s storyline involves him seeing himself as a hero, even if Daredevil and viewers don’t agree.

Scardapane highlighted Bullseye’s complex history, mentioning his pivotal actions in Season 3 of the Netflix series, the difficult deal he struck with Vanessa Fisk in Season 1, and his upcoming role in their current project.

The showrunner explained Dex’s current mindset: he realizes the authorities are after vigilantes, and since he considers himself one, he believes that makes him a hero. The show finds humor and suspense in this idea, especially considering Bullseye’s personality. Without spoiling anything, the story explores how he responds to being labeled a ‘wanted’ vigilante, while simultaneously being a dangerous, unrepentant killer. They really leaned into that contradiction.

Wilson Bethel delivered an outstanding performance as Agent Poindexter in Daredevil Season 3, brilliantly portraying the character’s slide into insanity and villainy. His origin story, particularly in the episode “The Perfect Game” (Season 3, Episode 5), is one of the best ever created for Marvel. By the end of the Netflix series, Bullseye had become a fully developed and terrifying character – a unpredictable and deadly threat, almost like a slasher-film killer, where his appearance signals imminent danger for anyone nearby.

Bullseye is sure to remain a lively and engaging character in the second season of Born Again. According to Scardapane, Wilson Bethel’s portrayal is the strongest yet, and he’s eager to keep bringing that energy to the role.

As a huge fan of the Daredevil: Born Again revival, I’m loving that new episodes are dropping every Tuesday at 6 pm Pacific Time, exclusively on Disney+. And if you’re as hooked as I am and want to chat about what’s going on – all the theories and rumors – I’ve been joining the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum. It’s a great place to share thoughts with other fans!
