The ranks of Daredevil’s forces are increasing. In the final episode of Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) swore to reclaim Hell’s Kitchen from corrupt Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and crime queen Vanessa Fisk (Ayelet Zurer), who orchestrated the murder of lawyer Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) to hide their shady business dealings with the Red Hook Port project. The city was thrown into darkness by Mayor Fisk’s blackout, he sent his Anti-Vigilante Task Force after vigilantes like Daredevil and the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), and declared martial law.
This is our town, not his. We can reclaim it together,” the Man Without Fear declared as scenes of his small band flashed across the screen, comprising Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), former cop Cherry (Clark Johnson), Detective Angie Kim (Ruibo Qian), and a select group of officers. “We must unite to resist, rebel, and rebuild,” he continued. “For we are the fearless city.
In the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again,” we can expect to see more allies joining Daredevil’s team, including Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), a super-powered private investigator and fellow Defender, as well as an old friend from “Marvel’s Daredevil” – NYPD Detective Sergeant Brett Mahoney (Royce Johnson).
Fitness trainer Naqam Washington posted pictures on Instagram from the wrap celebration for season 2, which showed him taking photos with actors Zurer, Zabryna Guevara (Sheila Rivera), and Wilson Bethel (Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter/Bullseye). Also in the photos were second unit director Philip J. Silvera, costume designer Emily Gunshor, head of makeup department Kimberly Amacker, and Johnson, hinting that Mahoney might reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Hell’s Kitchen setting.
In the debut episode of “Daredevil,” which premiered on Netflix in 2015, a character named Johnson’s Mahoney, who was once Foggy’s childhood rival, made his first appearance. Before becoming a detective, Mahoney encountered the “Masked Man” during a time when the precursor to Daredevil was uncovering corrupt cops within the criminal empire of Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin. Johnson resurfaced in episodes of “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher,” with his last appearance being in the finale of the “Daredevil” spinoff series in 2019.
In the gritty part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe often referred to as Hell’s Kitchen, showrunner Dario Scardapane mentioned to EW about a potential return of Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’ Danny Rand (Iron Fist). He said, “When you’re working here, those legendary characters are always on your mind. However, it’s challenging because you want to incorporate individuals and relationships from Matt’s past since they enrich the narrative, especially in a storyline where Fisk has seized control of the city. There’s a resistance and an uprising against him.
Scardapane hinted that there will be individuals, perhaps vigilantes or superheroes, playing roles in the storyline. Given the events happening within their city, it seems fitting. However, the showrunner emphasized that these characters and their motivations should feel authentic and not forced. So, who they are and why they’re involved needs to be more than just a given.” He also mentioned that Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are “definitely part of our plans as we develop the storyline.
He went on to explain, “This topic is quite complex and difficult to express in writing, and it’s currently a closely held secret. So, I’m being deliberately vague, but let me tell you, we are indeed considering it enthusiastically.
