Daredevil: Born Again Showrunner & Charlie Cox Confirm Kingpin’s Season 3 Status Despite Speculations Of Season 2’s Ending

Even after the second season of Daredevil: Born Again finishes, Matt Murdock will continue to clash with Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin.

Both the showrunner, Dario Scardapane, and star Charlie Cox have discussed the future of the series, including whether Daredevil will finally defeat his main enemy, Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio. Fisk has become a major threat as the mayor of New York City, but it appears his plans may fail by the end of the second season of Born Again.

According to Scardapane, everything he writes has consequences. He explained to The New York Times that the current storyline—where Wilson Fisk becomes mayor and Matt Murdock leads the opposition—was always heading towards a specific outcome. While that particular arc will conclude, Scardapane emphasized that this is far from the end of Fisk’s story.

We draw inspiration from classic Daredevil comic book storylines, blending elements from different runs to create our version of the tale,” Scardapane explained. “At its heart, the story is about Matt Murdock’s internal conflict – his deep respect for the law versus his constant need to break it as Daredevil.

Cox has discussed what’s next for Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said that season three of Born Again feels like a fresh start, moving past Kingpin’s time as a politician. He described it as “a new book, a new dawn,” suggesting a significant change for the character.

“It definitely continues the story, but with a bit of a twist,” Cox explained. Scardapane had mentioned something similar, noting that season three maintains the overall feel of the show while being less reliant on tightly connected storylines than the first two seasons.

The first and second seasons feel like two parts of a larger story, and I believe there’s a third part coming, though I can’t say much about it yet. I see the story of Fisk and Murdock as having natural highs and lows. In the first season, Fisk is clearly winning. By the second season, things have changed, and both characters face the repercussions of their actions. As we discussed, season two really establishes Fisk as the Kingpin and Murdock as Daredevil, and that sets the stage for what comes next.

Scardapane has made it clear that the conflict between Daredevil and Kingpin will continue within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stating, “Their story never truly ends.” He previously hinted that the storyline involving Mayor Fisk in the Born Again series would likely conclude in its second season, and recent casting announcements for Spider-Man: Brand New Day seem to support that idea.

Kingpin is such a key part of Daredevil’s world that it’s unlikely he’ll be gone for good, and he’s the type of villain who always bounces back. That makes his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe almost guaranteed. New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are released on Tuesdays at 9:00pm ET, exclusively on Disney+.
