One of the things people have always loved about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is seeing its heroes team up. While it was especially exciting when these crossovers first started, it’s still enjoyable to watch characters like the Thunderbolts members or the Fantastic Four interact. Over the past two decades, Marvel has given us many of these team-ups, and with the current Multiverse Saga, we can expect even more. However, there’s one popular pairing fans are still hoping to see, and the latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again playfully acknowledges this demand.
In the “Scales & The Sword” podcast, host BB Urich – wearing a Kingpin mask – mentions the mayor’s “friendly neighborhood task force.” This is likely a deliberate nod to the famous “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” phrase. It’s a clever moment where Marvel acknowledges fan hopes for a Daredevil and Spider-Man team-up, something fans have wanted for a long time but that doesn’t appear to be planned anytime soon.
Daredevil & Spider-Man Likely Won’t Team Up In Born Again

The Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again has playfully included references to Spider-Man. For example, Wilson Fisk talked about a vigilante with a “spider symbol” while speaking to New Yorkers – a clear hint at Peter Parker. While these nods are enjoyable for viewers, they shouldn’t be seen as a promise of Spider-Man appearing in the show. Many fans are hoping these references are setting up a future team-up between Daredevil and Spider-Man, but it’s probably not going to happen, even though it would be logical for Peter Parker to help fight against Fisk’s new group.
While there are good story reasons to include Spider-Man in the Born Again series, the biggest challenge isn’t the plot – it’s the complicated ownership rights. Spider-Man is jointly owned by Disney and Sony, which allows Tom Holland to appear in Marvel movies. Sony handles distribution of the films, but the TV rights are more complex. Both companies can make their own Spider-Man TV shows, as seen with shows like Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Spider-Noir. Although Disney has some TV rights, the agreement actually prevents Holland from easily moving into a Disney+ series.
Leaked documents from the 2014 Sony hack revealed a specific agreement regarding Spider-Man animation. Sony owns the rights to live-action Spider-Man TV shows and animated series with episodes longer than 44 minutes. Disney’s Marvel Studios can only produce animated Spider-Man shows with shorter episodes – under 44 minutes. This explains why episodes of the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man are around 30 minutes long. While these details are over a decade old, there’s no evidence the agreement has changed.
Even though Spider-Man is incredibly popular, Marvel Studios currently doesn’t have the legal rights to include him in a live-action TV show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While a deal between Disney and Sony could potentially allow for TV appearances if they reach an agreement – like they do for movies – it’s proving difficult. There’s been speculation that Kingpin might appear in a Spider-Man movie, but actor Vincent D’Onofrio has repeatedly explained the complex legal obstacles. Essentially, a lot of corporate issues are preventing a Daredevil/Spider-Man team-up on TV. And because streaming doesn’t rely on box office revenue, there’s little motivation for the companies to try and resolve these issues.
Could Daredevil and Spider-Man Team Up in an MCU Movie?

I was really hoping to see Daredevil and Spider-Man team up on a TV show, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen because of legal issues. Still, maybe they could meet in a movie! It’s interesting how the Spider-Man movies (which Sony makes, even though they’re part of the MCU) keep bringing in characters that Disney owns, like the Punisher and Hulk. The new film continues that trend, and it looks like we’re being introduced to Sadie Sink’s character, who might be Jean Gray and will apparently be back for Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s cool how they’re weaving these Disney/Marvel characters together!
As a fan, it was so exciting to see Charlie Cox show up in a recent Spider-Man movie! His cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, playing Matt Murdock and giving Peter Parker legal advice, was a great moment. He didn’t become Daredevil in that film, but nothing seems to stop him from suiting up as the hero later on. There’s a lot of buzz among fans that we might even see Daredevil join the action in the upcoming Brand New Day!
Fans have been carefully analyzing the new trailer for Brand New Day, and one shot in particular has caused a lot of discussion. It shows Spider-Man fighting a large group of enemies, who many believe are from The Hand. Some viewers think Sony digitally removed characters from this scene, possibly to keep some surprises for the final movie, just like they did with the marketing for No Way Home. Since The Hand are well-known villains from the Daredevil comics, many are speculating that Daredevil and Spider-Man might team up to fight them in the film.
Despite Charlie Cox saying he isn’t in the new Spider-Man film, fans remember that actors sometimes keep secrets, as seen with Andrew Garfield and No Way Home. Marvel stars are carefully prepared for interviews and know how to avoid revealing too much. Because fans have wanted to see Daredevil and Spider-Man team up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time, it’s possible Cox is deliberately downplaying his role. The film doesn’t necessarily need to highlight his appearance, as Spider-Man is popular enough on its own. We’ll have to wait and see if these two heroes end up crossing paths.
