Daredevil: Born Again’s Bullseye Story Means the MCU’s Can Redeem Its Biggest 2025 Mistake

Though it’s only three episodes in, the new season of Daredevil: Born Again hints at potentially correcting a major MCU misstep from 2025, and it revolves around the character Bullseye. Benjamin Pointdexter, also known as Bullseye, is a well-known villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Season 3 of Daredevil effectively demonstrated just how dangerous and malicious he is, and the current Born Again storyline is reinforcing that he’s one of the most lethal and unlikeable characters in the MCU.

Bullseye hasn’t been a major focus in the first few episodes of Born Again season 2, but trailers suggest he’ll have a much larger role as the season progresses. So far, he’s helped Daredevil escape the AVTF in episode 1 and then eliminated some AVTF agents in episode 2. While these actions don’t reveal much about his overall plan, they strongly suggest the direction his storyline will take.

Bullyseye Could Get A Redemption Arc In Born Again Season 2

It appears Bullseye is undergoing a change of heart in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Even though he was a major enemy of Matt Murdock and responsible for Foggy Nelson’s death in the first season, he’s currently been shown assisting Matt. While Matt hasn’t officially made Bullseye part of his team, Dex is clearly focusing his efforts against Wilson Fisk rather than Daredevil and the other heroes in Born Again.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Dex is turning over a new leaf. It’s possible he and Matt are just teaming up because they both have a common enemy in Fisk, and the AVTF wants to stop them both. Still, Dex’s decision to save Matt in the first episode suggests he might be considering doing the right thing. But we won’t know for sure if that’s where the story is headed until we see more of the show.

Bullseye’s Redemption and de Fontaine’s Involvement Could Lead To A Proper Thunderbolts

If the second season of Born Again actually gives Bullseye a chance to turn good, it could set the stage for a true Thunderbolts team. In the comics, the Thunderbolts are usually a group of villains who handle big, dangerous problems. But the Thunderbolts movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe featured a team of antiheroes and even some actual heroes. Eventually, that team became the New Avengers, abandoning the villainous origins of the comic book version.

Bullseye would be an ideal addition to a Thunderbolts team that stays true to the comics. He’s clearly a villain, but his sharpshooting skills are unmatched within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A team featuring genuinely evil characters like Bullseye, Red Hulk, and Baron Zemo would create a compelling dynamic, setting the Thunderbolts apart from the more heroic New Avengers.

To add Bullseye to the Thunderbolts team, Marvel just needs to connect him with Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Fortunately, a connection is already being set up: episode one shows Mr. Charles working for de Fontaine, linking her story to the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. We don’t know the reason for their involvement yet, but it will likely be explained in a future episode.

In season 2 of Born Again, Valentina might discover Bullseye’s attacks on the Fisk family, and decide he’d be perfect for a new Thunderbolts team. The New Avengers are too well-known to carry out the secret, covert missions Valentina originally planned, but those missions still need to get done, making a new team necessary.

Bullseye has only appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe within the world of Daredevil so far, but a sequel to Thunderbolts could expand his role. This would give him the chance to interact with heroes like the New Avengers, introducing him to a much wider range of Marvel characters. Bullseye could be a great addition to many future MCU projects beyond Daredevil, and hopefully, a new Thunderbolts team will make that happen.
