The new Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, appears to have successfully recaptured the quality of the original Daredevil series on Netflix – something many fans hoped for. After a difficult start to the season, Marvel Studios and the show’s creators found a clear direction for Daredevil within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and early reactions suggest they’ve delivered on their potential.
The fourth episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, titled “Gloves Off,” has received some of the best reviews of the series so far after premiering on Disney+. Many viewers believe it’s a pivotal episode that will be remembered as one of the best in Daredevil history, and possibly even across all Marvel television shows.
Daredevil‘s New Episode Is One of the Best of the Series (& Review Scores Prove It)

The Daredevil episode “Gloves Off” has a very high IMDb rating of 9.6 out of 10, the same score as the series finale of Daredevil Season 3, “A New Napkin.” The finale featured a dramatic and violent confrontation between Matt Murdock (Daredevil), Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), and Dex Poindexter (Bullseye) at Fisk’s wedding to Vanessa.
The conflict involved Wilson Fisk and Vanessa being hunted for the murders they arranged. It culminated in Fisk paralyzing Bullseye, Daredevil almost killing Fisk, and Fisk seemingly falling to his death to save Vanessa. This created a dramatic cliffhanger for a potential fourth season of Daredevil – a rematch that never happened… until now.
“Gloves Off” Is Daredevil: Born Again‘s True Sequel to Daredevil Season 3

The overwhelmingly positive response to “Gloves Off” isn’t surprising – it feels like a natural extension of the story begun in Daredevil Season 3. While Born Again Season 1 made some changes – Bullseye is now motivated by a different betrayal, Fisk operates from a new position of power, and the specific conflict over testimony is altered – the core narrative remains remarkably similar. Daredevil is once again trying to save Dex Poindexter from a destructive path, and the overall struggle against Kingpin echoes the events of the previous season. In fact, if you watched this episode immediately after the Daredevil Season 3 finale, it would feel like a seamless continuation – a second round in their ongoing battle.
Solvan “Slick” Naim, the director of “Gloves Off,” clearly brought a more polished style – and a bigger budget from Marvel Studios – compared to Sam Miller’s work on “A New Napkin” in 2018. This episode is packed with more action than any previous Daredevil installment, kicking off with a full battle sequence featuring Bullseye. Marvel and Disney+ even shared a preview of this fight, but it didn’t reveal too much. (Beware of major spoilers!) The fight between Daredevil and Bullseye was intense and took place in a confined apartment, showcasing a huge improvement over the CGI-heavy fight at the beginning of the first episode. We also saw a brutal charity boxing match with Fisk, which quickly led to a showdown between Fisk, Bullseye, and Daredevil. And just when viewers thought things were settling down, the episode ended on a shocking cliffhanger – a major character will die.

The climactic fight at Fogwell’s Gym features some of the most visually striking moments in Daredevil‘s history. We see Fisk portrayed as an unstoppable force, Daredevil struggling to defend both himself and others from Dex’s lethal attacks, and a heartbreaking slow-motion shot of Fisk destroying a sentimental item thrown by Bullseye – tragically, the resulting fragments still kill Vanessa. Ayelet Zurer’s powerful performance in her final scene, combined with the raw, terrifying fury displayed by Fisk afterward, has left Marvel fans anxious to see what’s next for Daredevil, Bullseye, and everyone involved.
We doubt this will be the last death we see this season.
So, I just finished watching Episode 4 of Daredevil: Born Again, and I’m really curious to hear what everyone else thought! I’m heading over to the ComicBook Forum to chat about it – anyone want to join and share their opinions?
