Unfortunately, a key character from Daredevil won’t be appearing in Season 2, which is a bit worrying for fans.
According to a report from Empire, shared on X by DiscussingFilm, Jon Bernthal will not be reprising his role as Frank Castle, The Punisher, in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. This news is unexpected, considering his work on Season 1 and Marvel Studios’ plans to include the character in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Okay, so I just heard some news about Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 that’s a bit of a bummer. Apparently, Jon Bernthal won’t be back as The Punisher. Honestly, his performance was a huge part of why the first Daredevil reboot was so good! But the showrunners are doubling down on Kingpin – Vincent D’Onofrio is definitely returning, and they’re going to really dig into the political side of things in New York City. The good news is, Winston Bethel is coming back as Bullseye, which he accidentally let slip a while back. So while we won’t see The Punisher, it sounds like they’re building something big with Kingpin and Bullseye.
Krysten Ritter will return as Jessica Jones in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. A preview shown at New York Comic-Con 2025 suggests this could lead to the return of The Defenders team. Although the season might seem ambitious, producer Amanat explained they’re aiming for a more focused, classic Daredevil story, exploring new and exciting territory.
What’s Next For The Punisher In The Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Jon Bernthal is returning as the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! He’ll appear alongside Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and the rest of the cast in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. The announcement has sparked a lot of discussion about how big his role will be, and whether the film will further connect to the Daredevil series, following Charlie Cox’s short appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
It’s also been confirmed that Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as The Punisher in a dedicated Marvel Studios special, focusing on the character. While a release date hasn’t been officially announced, the special is currently planned for 2026.
