Daredevil is a classic Marvel superhero, but surprisingly, he doesn’t have a huge roster of famous enemies. First appearing in his own comic book in 1964, Daredevil has faced threats like the Hand, a dangerous ninja group, and the Kingpin, a powerful crime boss. He’s also fought many assassins hired by both the Kingpin and the Hand over the years.
What sets Daredevil apart is his profession as a lawyer; he fundamentally believes in the legal system and ensuring true justice, rather than simply taking the law into his own hands. Here’s a ranking of some of Daredevil’s most dangerous enemies from Marvel Comics, including villains like The Kingpin and deadly assassins.
7) Owl

Leland Owlsley was among the earliest villains faced by Daredevil in the comics. He first appeared in Daredevil #3 and marked the first significant enemy Matt Murdock battled as he developed his collection of recurring foes. Prior to facing Owlsley, Daredevil had only fought minor criminals like the Fixer and the Spider-Man villain Electro. Owlsley himself was a dishonest businessman who once hired the law firm of Nelson & Murdock.
Owl isn’t exactly a villain, but he can fly because of a serum he created. Unfortunately, the serum also dulled his mind, making him somewhat unpredictable. Even so, Owl has become a notable figure in the criminal world, though he’s not as powerful as major players like Kingpin or Tombstone.
6) Typhoid Mary

Typhoid Mary is a highly dangerous assassin working for the Kingpin. First appearing in Daredevil #254, she’s a supervillain with dissociative identity disorder, meaning she has five distinct personalities. These include the gentle and caring Mary, the aggressive and seductive Typhoid Mary, the ruthless killer known as Bloody Mary, the level-headed and self-aware Walker, and Mutant Zero, a personality resembling a trained military operative.
Her abilities change depending on which personality is dominant; Mary herself doesn’t have any powers. The other personalities each have varying degrees of telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and telepathy. She’s caused Daredevil a lot of trouble, and things became even more complicated when she fell in love with him.
5) Ikari

Ikari first appeared in Daredevil Vol. 3, issue #25, and remained a character until issue #17 of Vol. 4. Though he was only a Daredevil villain for two years, he became a remarkably difficult opponent. Bullseye employed Ikari, a skilled Japanese martial artist, to try and kill Daredevil, and Ikari disguised himself by wearing an older version of Daredevil’s red and yellow costume.
He also asserted he possessed a radar sense similar to Daredevil, and during their fights, he seemed like a distorted, whirlwind-like reflection of the hero. His true identity remained a mystery, but it wasn’t crucial – Ikari was simply designed as a dangerously unhinged version of Daredevil, and one who nearly defeated him several times.
4) Muse

Muse is a particularly dangerous villain to Daredevil, known for his gruesome methods and disturbing treatment of victims. He paints portraits of those he kills using their blood. Muse is also incredibly violent and unstable, demonstrated by his act of blinding Daredevil’s friend, Blindspot, as a deliberate message.
Muse possesses a unique ability that makes him incredibly difficult to detect – even Daredevil struggles to sense him, as his body functions like a vortex. He also has heightened senses that allow him to fight on equal footing with Daredevil. Muse first appeared in Daredevil Vol. 5 #11 and recently made his live-action debut as a villain in a Disney+ series.
3) The Hand

The Hand isn’t a single individual; it’s a powerful organization that has caused Daredevil more trouble than anyone, including the Kingpin, Wilson Fisk. This ninja clan worships a demon called the Beast and is divided into different groups, each led by a faction leader, all ultimately reporting to one supreme leader. Notably, Daredevil himself once rose to become that supreme leader in a famous storyline.
The Hand is a remarkably powerful organization. Beyond their skilled ninja assassins, who possess enhanced strength through mystical abilities, they practice black magic and have even resurrected the dead – notably, Daredevil’s former love, Elektra. First appearing in Daredevil #174, they’ve been consistent adversaries for Daredevil, Elektra, Wolverine, and The Punisher ever since.
2) Bullseye

Bullseye is a highly skilled and dangerous assassin in the Marvel Universe, and he’s caused Daredevil more trouble than almost any other villain. First appearing in Daredevil #131, he quickly became Daredevil’s main enemy. What makes Bullseye particularly cruel is that he’s targeted people Daredevil cared about deeply, even killing two of his loves, Elektra and Karen Page.
Like Hawkeye, Bullseye is incredibly accurate, and when he does miss, it’s a real surprise. He wasn’t originally superhuman, but now his skeleton is bonded with adamantium, making him a very tough opponent. As a villain in the Daredevil comics, Bullseye is responsible for killing Daredevil in the storyline Daredevil: The End. Interestingly, he then committed suicide, feeling he had nothing left to prove.
1) Kingpin

Wilson Fisk, known as the Kingpin, is Daredevil’s most dangerous enemy. While he first appeared as a villain for Spider-Man, he’s a better fit for Daredevil because he controls all the criminal activity in New York City. This makes for a compelling conflict, as Daredevil works as both a lawyer and a masked crime fighter dedicated to protecting the city. The fact that Kingpin even became mayor only increased the stakes and made him a more formidable opponent.
Kingpin is incredibly dangerous. When he discovered Matt Murdock was Daredevil, he deliberately dismantled Murdock’s life, causing him to lose his job, reputation, and the trust of those around him. He was also directly responsible for Karen Page’s death. Kingpin severely harmed Daredevil, and it took significant events within the comics for Daredevil to rebuild his life and standing in the Marvel Universe.
