Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, will be sporting a new look in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. The original Daredevil series, created through a collaboration between Marvel and Netflix, was critically acclaimed for its realistic tone and strong performances. Now that Marvel has full control of the characters again, they’re quickly reviving the show. Following the success of Season 1, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in 2026.
Daredevil will be sporting a new costume in the second season of Born Again. While fans are excited to see the classic D-D logo finally appear on the suit, the costume has other notable features. It’s significantly darker, designed to help Daredevil operate discreetly. This makes sense, as he’s currently being targeted by Wilson Fisk, who is now the Mayor of New York and a powerful crime boss. The all-black design is ideal for stealth and working in the shadows.
Daredevil’s Black Costume Has a Surprising Origin
The upcoming second season of Daredevil: Born Again is a fresh start, completely separate from the first version of the show. Producer Sana Amanat told Empire that the creative team felt free to explore any direction they chose, calling it a “liberating” experience. You can find more details in the full article.

The costume’s design takes inspiration from a surprising look Daredevil wore leading up to the “Shadowland” storyline. This 2010 event showed Daredevil questioning conventional superhero methods. He’d always fought against the ninja group called the Hand, but he attempted to change them from within by becoming their leader. Unfortunately, despite his good intentions, Daredevil unknowingly put himself under the influence of the Beast, a powerful demon who created the Hand long ago.
When Daredevil fell under the Beast’s influence, he seized control of Hell’s Kitchen, creating a zone called “Shadowland” where crime was outlawed, but the Hand, not the police, enforced the rules. This forced many of New York’s street-level heroes to reluctantly join forces with the Kingpin’s allies to fight against Daredevil’s increasingly harsh rule and uncover the truth behind his actions. Eventually, Daredevil broke free from the Beast’s control and made the ultimate sacrifice, destroying the Hand’s magical hold on Hell’s Kitchen.
Is Shadowland an Inspiration for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?

It’s unlikely Marvel will directly adapt the “Shadowland” storyline for the MCU, as it doesn’t quite align with the current direction. The Hand ninja clan was heavily featured in the now-canceled Netflix shows, including The Defenders, and feels largely used up. To bring them back, Marvel would need a major revamp to make them feel original. Plus, with no mention of the Hand in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, introducing them now would feel forced and disrupt the established story.
There’s a chance Season 2 will explore the idea of Daredevil creating a safe zone, independent of police control, for the vigilantes Kingpin is trying to eliminate as mayor. Given Kingpin’s increasing crackdown on vigilantes, it makes sense for the heroes to claim their own territory. However, if this becomes the main storyline, it will likely end with a similar level of violence to the “Shadowland” arc, as Kingpin won’t ignore such a direct challenge to his authority.
