Dark Anime Confirms Return With Season 2 As Halloween Approaches

I’m a huge anime fan, and we’ve talked a lot about how surprisingly little true horror there is compared to things like action, romance, or comedy. While Junji Ito gets a lot of love (and rightfully so!), it’s hard to find really spooky anime. But there’s one recent series that’s really captured people’s imaginations with its genuinely creepy stories! I was so excited to hear that OLM – the studio behind Pokémon and Berserk – is bringing back their scariest series yet for a second season!

Originally a manga created by Kenichi Kondo in 2019, Dark Gathering follows Keitaro Gentoga and Yayoi Hozuki as they try to capture ghosts. Although the animation style might seem mild, the animated series by OLM has delivered some genuinely frightening moments. While we don’t have a release date for season two yet, the studio has confirmed it will take place in Kyoto, Japan, and continue the story of Yayoi and Keitaro. To build excitement, a new visual has been released, promising a scary return to the world of anime horror.

The Dark Gathering Gathers Once Again

Along with the exciting news about a second season, the creator of Dark Gathering, Kenichi Kondo, sent a message to fans. He expressed his gratitude for their support and the hard work of the anime’s staff. Kondo recalled finding the Kyoto arc particularly challenging to write, but was amazed by how beautifully the animators brought his vision to life. He praised the staff’s dedication to adapting the long and complex story and hopes fans will enjoy the upcoming season and look forward to more updates.

Hiroshi Ikehata, the director of the anime, has confirmed that the new installment is a full second season, not just a continuation of the first. He explained it’s a proper season two, made due to the overwhelming popularity of the series. He expressed his gratitude to fans in Japan and worldwide for making this possible, and promised the team is working hard to deliver an even more frightening and compelling experience, determined to exceed expectations.
