Approximately one year later, after a prolonged absence, there’s been a resurfacing of news about Darksiders 4. THQ Nordic has unveiled a fresh trailer for Darksiders 4 during its digital presentation. This action-packed game is slated to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at an as-yet undisclosed future date.
The trailer is concise yet impactful as it hints at War, our hero from the initial game (and a character you can control in Genesis), being pursued and fighting a solitary war. However, he reassures that he won’t be alone, prompting a wider view to reveal the other three Horsemen: Strife, Death, and Fury – each of whom have appeared playable in different Darksiders installments.
2024’s reveal lived up to an earlier hint, as THQ Nordic marketing manager Tom Moore mentioned on Xbox Wire: “The Four Horsemen will return.” While the series has gradually suggested a game featuring all four horsemen, it hasn’t delivered on this vague promise until now.
According to THQ Nordic, the game allows players to select their characters, each with unique weapons and playstyles. The action is quick and intense, blending agility skills and supernatural powers. Additionally, the game offers diverse landscapes filled with various enemies to conquer, hidden treasures to discover, and powerful bosses to defeat.
For quite some time now, there hasn’t been a mainline Darksiders game released. However, in 2019, we got “Darksiders Genesis,” a spin-off isometric action game that garnered reasonable reviews. The last numbered sequel, “Darksiders 3,” was more Soulslike and had a rocky launch the year before. In comparison, “Darksiders 2” from 2012 resembled games like Diablo and Devil May Cry with its focus on loot and juggle-heavy combat. The original game from 2010 was heavily inspired by The Legend of Zelda, and it received the warmest reception among all entries. It’s yet to be seen how this new release will fare given that each one has explored a slightly different genre.
