Hooded Horse and Ice-Pick Lodge have revealed the next installment in the survival horror series, Darkwood II, which is coming to PC. You’ll be able to find it on Steam and the Microsoft Store, and it will also be included with Xbox Game Pass. A specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Here is an overview of the game, via Hooded Horse:
Set a few years after the highly praised survival horror game Darkwood, the sequel introduces new areas to explore – both land and water – along with terrifying new creatures and a desperate fight to survive until dawn. Darkwood II features a completely original story and cast of characters, meaning you can enjoy it even if you haven’t played the first game.
After the Soviet Union fell apart, a strange forest began growing in what was left of the shrinking Aral Sea. It’s spreading and consuming everything around it, and no one understands how it started or why—some even wonder if it’s a consequence of damaging the environment.
Everywhere you look, there are remnants of a lost civilization: abandoned towns, old ships stranded in the sand, and crumbling oil rigs, power plants, and factories. A hidden research lab stands empty on a distant island, while gangs of scavengers, motorcycle clubs, and ex-soldiers rule over what’s left of the population through intimidation. People wander these lands constantly, with no peace or security – not even within fortified walls.
With the world becoming less compassionate and the influence of something wild and destructive growing, it’s hard not to question whether holding onto our humanity is truly the best path—or if surrendering to something else might be preferable.
Only the heart of the forest holds the answer.
Darkwood II takes you on a perilous journey through harsh landscapes – from desolate deserts and dense swamps to open waters. With the local population struggling to hold back the encroaching forest, you’ll need to use your intelligence to conquer your fears and navigate the world, as there are no helpful quest markers or waypoints to show you the way.
Gather supplies, make weapons for defense, and find or build shelter before nightfall. Fortify your hiding place with barricades and traps to protect against dangers that come from all sides. Will you hide and hope for the best, or will you fight back against the creatures that roam in the darkness? Maybe you’ll experiment with unusual mixtures to gain abilities that could help you survive—though survival might come at a cost.
Encounter complex characters, each driven by their own unique reasons. Discover their troubled pasts and make choices that shape not only their destinies, but also the world around you, altering the course of your story as you progress.
