Looking to get darkwood trunks in Hytale? It’s easy to spend ages searching, hoping to find them on any tree you come across. Don’t bother with Burnt or Camphor logs – I’ve tried, and they won’t work! After a lot of searching, I figured out where to find them, and while the game doesn’t make it obvious, I now know the best places to look.
What is Darkwood?

Darkwood trunks are made from cedar trees. You can easily recognize cedar by its deep brown wood and bluish leaves. Even young cedar trees, or saplings, look similar. Gathering cedar wood is how you get the darkwood trunks needed to improve your items.
Where to Find Cedar
Cedar trees are only found in cold, snowy areas. Look for trees with unique blue leaves – it’s a good sign you’ve found the right one! Once you spot them, cedar is easy to harvest and provides all the materials needed to create darkwood trunks.
These trees really make upgrading feel like a fun little quest! When you’re searching, brave the snowy mountains, but don’t bother with any extra logs you see – they’re just for looks and won’t help you upgrade.
Wrap-Up
To get Darkwood trunks, you’ll need to be patient and know where to search. Skip the Burnt and Camphor biomes, and the volcanic cliffs – instead, focus on the cold, snowy areas. Find the cedar trees, gather the wood, and you’ll be well on your way to upgrading your storage!
If you’re already heading into a snowy area, why not spend the day mining and crafting? You might also find my guide to finding Cobalt Ore in Hytale helpful. It’s cold, it’s shiny, and definitely worth the effort! With cedar and cobalt, your time in the snow will be much more rewarding.
