Dave Bautista has made a remarkable change from being a top WWE wrestler to a highly respected actor in Hollywood. After starting his acting career twenty years ago with a role in Relative Strangers, he’s received critical acclaim for his performances in popular films like Guardians of the Galaxy, Blade Runner 2049, and Knock at the Cabin. Now, his latest action thriller is proving to be a success, quickly becoming the most-watched movie on Prime Video just two months after its release.
Currently, Prime Video’s most popular movies include action-packed titles like The Accountant with Ben Affleck, Jason Statham’s A Working Man, and the upcoming John Wick spin-off, Ballerina. However, topping the chart is Trap House, a 2025 thriller directed by Michael Dowse. The film stars Dave Bautista as DEA agent Ray Seale, who discovers he’s chasing his own teenage children, a group of thieves. Unfortunately for viewers in the U.S., Trap House isn’t available for streaming on Prime Video or any other major platform right now, so it can only be rented or purchased.
Trap House Is a Streaming Hit Despite Mixed Reviews
As a movie fan, I’ve been following the buzz around Trap House on Prime Video, and it’s interesting to see it doing so well despite the initial reaction. Critics and audiences were pretty divided, honestly. It’s currently sitting with a pretty low score on Rotten Tomatoes – 55% from critics and even lower at 47% from viewers. The general feeling seems to be that it’s okay if you’re just looking for something to put on in the background, but the story itself is pretty weak. It relies on a lot of clichés, the characters aren’t very developed, and the movie can’t quite decide what kind of film it wants to be.
Eric Goldman of MovieWeb rated the film 2 out of 5 stars, noting that while Dave Bautista delivers a reliable performance, the story doesn’t quite grab the viewer’s attention. Todd Jorgenson from Cinemalogue felt the movie leaned too heavily on predictable tropes to build tension. However, critic Sean Chandler praised the film for its focus on the children involved, calling it a fresh take on a well-worn genre, even if it wasn’t flawless.
I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz about Trap House, and it seems to be doing really well on streaming, which isn’t surprising when it comes to Dave Bautista. He’s become a reliable draw for these platforms – a lot of his films really find an audience after they leave theaters. I’ve noticed it with several of his movies actually! Even ones that didn’t get great reviews, like In the Lost Lands, have popped up on Prime Video, Netflix, or Hulu and become pretty popular. The Killer’s Game and Knock at the Cabin followed that same pattern, so it’s becoming clear that Bautista films are great for at-home viewing.
