Lexi Jones is getting candid about a difficult chapter in her life.
Lexi Bowie, daughter of David Bowie and Iman, recently posted a 20-minute video where she opened up about her teenage years. She discussed her challenges with substance use following her father’s cancer diagnosis.
She shared in an Instagram post on February 18th that her first year of high school wasn’t about fitting in or having fun like it was for others. While her peers were experimenting, she was using substances to cope with a difficult life – a complicated family, a challenging school environment, and her own inner turmoil. She explained that she continued to drink and use drugs even after parties were over, doing so in isolation.
I’ve seen this pattern so many times – when someone starts leaning on substances more and more, it often leads to a real downturn in their mental wellbeing. In this young woman’s case, it changed her personality; she started reacting angrily and lashing out. Eventually, her family made the difficult decision to send her to a wilderness therapy program. It was a complete immersion in the outdoors, where she had to learn essential survival skills and essentially rebuild herself.
“I grew up in the city,” Jones went on. “I’d gone camping before, but this was a completely different experience. It wasn’t relaxing like camping usually is – it felt more like a strange, intense training exercise.”
Following a 91-day program, I spent the next 13 months at a treatment center in Utah, really focusing on healing and self-discovery. It was an incredibly transformative time, and I even started exploring my creative side through art. It was during my stay there that I received the heartbreaking news about my father’s passing in January 2016. I had been in touch with him before, so it was a really difficult moment, but the center provided a supportive environment to process everything.

She remembered talking to him just two days before, on his birthday. They’d both told each other ‘I love you,’ and it felt like they both understood what that meant.
TopMob News has contacted representatives for Iman and the estate of David Bowie, but they haven’t received a response yet.
Looking back on everything, even the tough times, I’ve realized how much my childhood shaped me into the person I am today. It really was a transformative experience, and I’m grateful for how it helped me grow.
She concluded by saying that facing difficult personal challenges early in life forced her to become very self-aware, and while she wished things had been different, she acknowledged it ultimately made her a more empathetic, sensitive, and creatively driven person.

Looking back on his battle with addiction, he thought about how far he’d gone to keep it a secret.
He recently shared on his wife Jenny Mollen’s podcast, All the Fails, that despite being in therapy and ‘working on things,’ he sometimes finds himself immediately after a good session going to buy vodka, finishing the bottle, and then driving home. He explained that he knew how to drink enough to disconnect from his life and avoid facing his feelings.
He explained that he’d carefully planned how much he’d drink, wanting to stay coherent enough to talk to me. He mentioned he was constantly swapping out bottles at the bar to control his intake.

The two-time World Cup-winning soccer player has publicly discussed using Adderall inappropriately while recovering from injuries during her time playing college soccer.
She shared on the 2025 podcast Question Everything with Danielle Robay that she had become seriously addicted to Adderall and was using it in dangerous ways. She explained she was taking it constantly, often going for days without sleep. It was a chaotic period, and she worried about her health, feeling like she was pushing her body too far. She admitted to both taking large amounts of the drug and snorting it, acknowledging it was a very difficult time.
However, in the midst of her struggle, her college coach Anson Dorrance was there to support her.

Offset shared a story on the show Baby, This Is Keke Palmer about his son repeatedly asking for pineapple Fanta, even though he rarely drinks soda. What really struck Offset was when his son noticed the color of his Fanta was different and asked why, which he found incredibly touching.
Offset explained that the seemingly harmless comment really upset him, saying he almost cried when he went back to his room.
The rapper explained he felt guilty as a father. He was worried his son didn’t realize he was using drugs and that even something as simple as his son wanting the same drink made him feel like a bad influence. He was concerned about setting a poor example.

The Academy Award-winning actor has often openly discussed December 29, 1975, the date he stopped drinking.
Let me tell you, it took hitting rock bottom for me to finally understand my issues. Back in October 2025, I shared on The New York Times‘ The Interview podcast that I was driving under the influence, completely blacked out, and honestly, had no idea where I was even going. It was a terrifying moment – the realization that I could have seriously hurt, or even killed, someone. And strangely, at that time, I didn’t even care about my own safety. That’s when it hit me: I was an alcoholic, and I needed help. It was a turning point, and I’m sharing my story now hoping it might resonate with others who are struggling.
With support from a friend, he started a journey of recovery. In December 2025, he celebrated 50 years of sobriety and shared a message of hope for others who are facing the same struggles he once did.
He urged people to embrace life in an Instagram message, repeating the word ‘life’ multiple times to emphasize his point: “Choose life instead of the opposite. Life, life, life, and more life.”

Jax stopped drinking as part of getting sober. He clarified he wasn’t sure if he had a drinking problem, but knew his alcohol and cocaine use were linked – he couldn’t use one without the other. He’s now been sober for over 82 days, which is the longest stretch he’s ever had.

Okay, so ever since he really committed to this new way of living, it’s like… a total transformation! He’s told me he’s actually sleeping better, which is amazing, and honestly, he just seems so much more capable of dealing with everything life throws at him. It’s incredible to see, honestly. He’s just… better, you know?
He explained that he was much more relaxed and able to handle problems on set. He felt mentally clear, healthier, and in better physical shape.

Alec described his early years in Los Angeles after leaving New York in 1983 as a period of intense struggle with cocaine addiction. He admitted to using a massive amount of the drug, saying it felt as commonplace as drinking coffee at the time, and that many people were using it constantly. He characterized the first two years as a daily battle with the problem, bringing the drug back home with him frequently.
And after quitting the drug, he soon turned to alcohol—only to also quit that dependency.
Today, he relies on the city around him.
Oh, New York… it just gets me, you know? It’s where I truly relax. I could wander those streets forever and still discover something new. Seriously, I’ll be walking along and suddenly see a building – like, really see it – and think, ‘Wow, how did I never notice those details before?’ It’s the little things, like the doors on a building, that just… hit me. And then there’s just being able to grab lunch or coffee with my friends – it’s perfect. It’s just… home.

Okay, so Anne Hathaway just told the New York Times she’s been sober for over five years, and honestly? I almost cried! She said it feels like a real milestone, and it just… it means so much to me to hear her say that. I’m so incredibly proud of her and everything she’s accomplished! It’s amazing.
She explained her decision simply. “I realized it wasn’t the right path for me,” she said. “It felt difficult to completely reject it, but I had to. It’s like an allergy – if you have a severe reaction, you don’t try to fight it. I finally stopped questioning my feelings and accepted it.”
She’s glad she made the change. “It’s improved everything in my life,” she explained. “It stopped me from dwelling on negativity, and I really don’t enjoy feeling sorry for myself.”

When accepting the 2018 Woman of the Year Award from the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House – a program helping women recover from addiction – Moore discussed how a damaging lifestyle almost ended her career.
I think we all have key moments that define us and change the course of our lives. Early in my career, I was heading down a really destructive path. Even when I achieved success, I never felt satisfied or good enough about myself. I had very little self-worth, and that quickly led to a crisis. At the time, I didn’t understand why, but it felt like something – maybe fate – intervened.
Moore, who received treatment in 2012, expressed gratitude to two people she hardly knew for giving her a wake-up call. She joked that they essentially told her she needed to get her life back on track or face the consequences. She said they gave her “a chance to change direction before I ruined everything.”
Moore reflected that others recognized potential in her that she hadn’t seen in herself. She expressed deep gratitude for their belief in her, saying she wouldn’t be where she was today without it.

She told Rolling Stone that recovery provided much-needed stability when she was struggling. “It really gave me structure at a time I needed it, because I didn’t want to just sit and overthink things,” she explained. “It gave me hope.”
The singer explained that once they discovered a way to briefly escape their pain, they were finished with whatever was causing it. In other words, finding a way to temporarily shut down their feelings marked the end of the struggle.
She explained that her friends at the time didn’t discourage her drug use, and it quickly spiraled out of control. During the pandemic, she realized she was struggling and felt disconnected. She remembered often falling asleep and being unable to stay awake, describing herself as being deeply affected by her substance use.
She eventually sought help and noted that “it took some time to get on my own two feet.”

Oh my god, you guys, I just finished watching the trailer for Eminem’s Stans documentary and it broke my heart! He finally talked about how bad things got with the pills – he actually overdosed! Can you imagine? And the worst part? He missed Hailie’s birthday party. That was the moment, he said, that he knew he had to change. It’s just… so raw and real. I’m so proud of him for being so honest and getting through it all. I’ve been a fan forever, and this just makes me love him even more!
He explained that he became emotional realizing what he had been missing out on. He described a harsh internal monologue, repeatedly asking himself if he wanted to repeat past mistakes and miss out on life again. He urged himself to persevere, even if it was difficult, and to do it for the sake of his loved ones.
Focusing on making music again played a key role in the Oscar winner’s recovery from addiction.
He described how it activated a light. This made him realize he was no longer ashamed of being sober. Instead, he began to see his sobriety as a strength, feeling proud of his ability to quit.

The former star of Parenthood had been sober for 16 years when she experienced a relapse in 2020. This happened after a motorcycle accident led her to take Vicodin.
He explained on his Armchair Expert podcast that he’s been taking prescription medication consistently for about the past two months. He also mentioned he’s taking more than the prescribed dosage.
He admitted he hated what he was doing and felt he had to stop, but his drug use was increasing rapidly. He was now taking eight pills a day, and worried about the severe withdrawal symptoms he knew would follow. He was also becoming increasingly scared and isolated, burdened by a huge secret he was keeping from everyone.

In 2018, the actress from Halloween openly discussed her decade-long struggle with opioid addiction. She told People magazine that she spent ten years stealing and deceiving others, and that no one suspected a thing.

During an appearance on CBS Mornings, she shared that she’d been sober for two and a half years, explaining that alcohol simply wasn’t beneficial to her life.
It’s amazing how freeing and nerve-wracking it feels to finally share who you are, what you believe in, and everything you’ve achieved.
Drew Barrymore told the Los Angeles Times she avoids calling herself “sober” because she doesn’t want to come across as overly strict or judgmental.
In 2023, she explained that she used to tell herself, ‘I can learn this, I can solve this.’ But she eventually came to a different conclusion: ‘I’m not going to master this, and that’s okay.’

In 2018, the singer celebrated six years of being sober while on tour. However, she surprised her fans later that year with the release of her honest single, “Sober,” in which she admitted to having struggled with relapse.
She sang, filled with regret, apologizing to her parents for relapsing and for the mess she’d made. She also expressed gratitude to those who had stayed by her side, acknowledging this wasn’t the first time she’d struggled with this, saying, ‘Mama, I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore, and Daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled. To those who’ve always been there, we’ve been through this before, and I’m so sorry I’ve relapsed.’
A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.
Okay, so she finally posted about everything, and honestly, it broke my heart but also made me so proud of her. She said she’s always been open about her struggles, and she really drove home the point that addiction isn’t something you just get over. It’s a constant battle, and she’s still fighting it. She needs space to heal and really focus on getting better, and she’s so grateful for all the support – seriously, the outpouring of love has been incredible. She says she can’t wait for the day she’s fully on the other side of this, but she will keep fighting, and honestly, that’s all I need to hear. I’m just so incredibly proud of her strength and honesty.

In 2018, she spoke about her past struggles with sex and alcohol. She explained that her addictions tended to change over time, and when she was younger, she believed sex could solve any problem. She later recognized that she had also developed a serious issue with drinking.
She recalled a low point when she was home alone and had already finished two bottles of wine, about to open a third. That’s when she realized she might have a drinking problem.
I stopped completely, which I’m capable of doing. I tend to get really into things, so I always have to be mindful of my habits. It’s not necessarily what you do, but why and how you approach it. The motivation behind your actions is key. For example, wanting to have a lot of sex is fine, but you need to understand why you want that.

Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean revealed he first experimented with drugs before filming the music video for their 2000 hit, “The Call.” He later told Good Morning America that he was feeling extremely out of control during the video shoot. After a setback, he achieved sobriety in 2021 and experienced significant improvements to his health within a year, including losing 32 pounds over seven months by eliminating alcohol and fast food.
He told People magazine in July 2025 that he’s committed to staying on his current path. He described it as a daily effort, but shared that following advice from the recovery community has dramatically improved his life.
While AJ acknowledged he is “still learning, still growing,” he’s now confident in who he is.
I’ve been learning to set healthy boundaries, something I never did before, and it’s really helped me. I also understand now that ‘AJ’ is a public image, but it’s separate from who I truly am – I’m Alexander James.

Following the tragic death of Mac Miller, rapper Bow Wow (born Shad Moss) revealed on Twitter that he had once battled an addiction to cough syrup, often called “lean.” He explained that during the time he and Omarion worked on their album Face Off, he was using lean every day. He admitted to being high on lean when he had a public altercation with Torae on BET, and that it negatively impacted his attitude, his fans’ perception of him, and his family relationships. He emphasized that he never glorified drug use in his music.
Bow Wow detailed his addiction, stating he was consuming codeine syrup at least seven times a day during his UCP tour with Chris Brown. He recounted a frightening experience in Cincinnati where he collapsed backstage and woke up in the hospital experiencing withdrawal symptoms. He described the intense pain and discomfort of withdrawal, noting he was constantly cold and missed shows in Chicago and Baltimore due to being high and sick. He urged fans to avoid drugs, emphasizing that he was using them to appear cool. He encouraged young people to be good children, strive for their best selves, and warned that drug use could lead to premature death.
Bow Wow shared that he still experiences stomach problems as a result of his addiction and remains drug-free. He ended his message by pleading with young artists and fans to break the cycle of drug use, stay safe, and prioritize their health and well-being, stating, “We can’t lose any more of you.”

In 2018, the singer opened up about her struggles with addiction, coinciding with the release of her album No Shame and her memoir My Thoughts Exactly. She revealed she had been heavily using cocaine and drinking excessively. Things came to a head when, after accidentally hitting Orlando Bloom with her head at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party and knocking herself unconscious, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin organized an intervention to help her.
In an interview with The Guardian, she described feeling deeply unfulfilled. She recalled a particularly low point, saying she even considered trying heroin because nothing else seemed to alleviate her unhappiness.

The actor known for The Parent Trap struggled with cocaine addiction during the 1980s, eventually entering rehab in 1990. He later shared on Today that he came of age in the 1960s and 70s, a time when attitudes toward drug use were very different.
He confessed that during the 1980s, his cocaine use was so extensive it rivaled some movie budgets. He described spending countless nights desperately pleading with God to help him stop, fearing he wouldn’t make it through the day before work. But then, just a few hours later, he’d convince himself it wasn’t that bad.
He described a powerful experience – what he called seeing a white light – where he felt he was either dying or about to lose everything important in his life. He then had to explain this to his then-fiancée, Meg Ryan, and afterwards, he decided to get help. He says this marked the end of his struggle with cocaine.

Following an incident at a Newport Beach hotel where he attempted to break down his own door, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte entered treatment for alcohol addiction in 2018. According to his representative, Lochte had been struggling with alcohol abuse for years, and it had become a harmful cycle. He recognized the need for professional help and began treatment immediately.
According to a recent statement, Ryan understands that overcoming this illness is crucial – not only to prevent future regrets, but also to be a good husband and father, and to have a chance at competing in his fifth Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 and regaining his position as a top swimmer.

Despite knowing you shouldn’t get sober for another person, actor Jason Ritter credits his relationship with Melanie Lynskey as a key factor in his decision to stop drinking.
He realized how wonderful she was and believed she deserved someone truly special. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in March 2023, he admitted he didn’t think he was that person, feeling he was ‘a little bit too crazy’ for her.
However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.
Looking back on the beginning of their relationship, he explained that he used to tell himself he was making sacrifices for her because he didn’t feel good about himself at the time. He prioritized avoiding her pain over his own, so it was simpler to justify his actions by saying he was doing it all for her. Now, he’s finally doing things for his own well-being.

The country singer has been sober for almost ten years, but achieving that took a lot of effort. His struggle with alcohol and painkillers started shortly after high school and continued even as his music career grew. He confessed to People magazine that he always kept a black leather laptop bag nearby, filled with Jagermeister or vodka. He described needing to drink “every hour and a half to two hours” and taking “a pill or two” every three to four hours.
Despite the challenges, it didn’t hinder his achievements. “I wasn’t falling apart,” he explained. “Actually, I was more productive then – I wrote more songs back then than I do today, and that’s what really worried me.”
In late 2011, he ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis and received a stark warning: if he didn’t stop drinking, he likely wouldn’t live another year. He admitted he kept delaying getting help, trying to cut back himself. “I’d tell myself, ‘Okay, I’ll only take two pills today,’ or ‘I’ll only drink this much from the bottle and mark where I stopped,’” he remembered. “It would work for a couple of days, but then someone would have a party and I’d start again.”
Gilbert finally decided he needed help and entered a rehabilitation program on December 18, 2011. He explained, “I realized I couldn’t overcome this on my own.” He admitted it was frustrating and humiliating, saying, “I’m usually very determined, but this was the one thing I couldn’t seem to change.”
