Lexi Jones is clearing the air.
Just two weeks after sharing her story of overcoming addiction and her time in rehab starting at age 14, David Bowie and Iman’s 25-year-old daughter is now responding to how people have understood her video. She says there have been “a lot of interpretations.”
Lexi explained on Instagram February 27th that she doesn’t blame her parents for her struggles with addiction, which began after her father’s cancer diagnosis. She wrote that she loves them very much and understands they were doing their best to help her, even though no one fully understood what she was going through at the time.
Indeed, she explained that it was never her plan to “create a narrative of family conflict.”
The singer explained they wanted to describe what it’s like to go through treatment as a teenager – the emotions you feel in the moment. They emphasized that it’s possible to feel both pain and appreciation for the people trying to support you at the same time.
She explained that she wasn’t interested in people discussing her personal life or blaming anyone. She simply wanted to start a conversation and gain a better understanding of the bigger picture, not focus on individual mistakes or shortcomings.
After posting her initial video about dealing with difficult emotions and past experiences during treatment, Lexi shared that many people reached out, saying they felt understood by what she shared.

Knowing that my story resonated with the right people has been incredibly meaningful,” she said. “I shared a personal experience hoping it would help others feel less isolated in their own journeys.
TopMob News contacted representatives for Iman and the estate of David Bowie for a statement, but they haven’t responded yet.
Lexi isn’t alone in sharing her struggles with addiction. Here are other celebrities who have also been open about their experiences.

In October 2018, the actor known for American Pie shared on Instagram that he had been sober for one year, marking the occasion with a positive and hopeful message.
He shared that he first attempted to stop drinking and using drugs more than five years ago, when his addiction became overwhelming. He admitted it was a difficult process, saying, “It turns out this is really hard.”
He shared that he’s been sober for a year, something he’s incredibly proud of after a challenging journey. He encouraged anyone struggling with addiction to seek help, emphasizing that there’s no shame in asking and that recovery is possible.
Looking back on his battle with addiction, he thought about how far he’d gone to keep it a secret.
He recently shared on his wife Jenny Mollen’s podcast, All the Fails, that despite being in therapy, he sometimes relapses into old patterns. He described leaving a productive therapy session and immediately going to buy vodka, drinking it to escape his feelings and disconnect from the present moment. He admitted to using alcohol to numb himself and avoid emotional connection.
He explained that he’d carefully planned how much to drink, making sure he stayed coherent enough to talk. He mentioned he was constantly refilling the bottles at the bar to manage his alcohol intake.

The two-time World Cup-winning soccer player has publicly discussed using Adderall inappropriately while recovering from injuries during her time playing college soccer.
She shared on the 2025 podcast, Question Everything with Danielle Robay, that she had become seriously addicted to Adderall and was using it in a dangerous way. She explained she was taking it constantly, often going days without sleep. It was a chaotic time, and she worried about seriously damaging her health. She admitted to taking the drug by crushing and snorting it, acknowledging it was a very problematic period in her life.
However, in the midst of her struggle, her college coach Anson Dorrance was there to support her.
She described a difficult time where she had to adapt to challenging circumstances. Anson encouraged her to read, and she found a life-changing book called Man’s Search for Meaning. It helped her understand and cope with suffering by offering a new perspective.

In October 2025, Migos member Quavo revealed he had been sober from codeine—an opioid often mixed with soda to create the drink known as sizzurp—for four years. He credited a serious conversation with his teenage son, Jordan, as the turning point that led him to get clean.
Offset shared a story on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer show about his son repeatedly asking for pineapple Fanta, even though he rarely drinks soda. What really got to Offset was when his son noticed his own drink looked different and asked why, which Offset found incredibly touching.
Offset explained that the seemingly harmless comment really upset him, adding, “I almost cried when I went to my room.”
The rapper explained he felt guilty as a parent. He was worried his son hadn’t realized there were drugs present and that even something as simple as his son wanting the same drink as him felt like a bad influence. He was concerned about setting a poor example.

The Academy Award-winning actor has often openly discussed December 29, 1975, the date he stopped drinking.
In an October 2025 interview on The New York Times‘ podcast, The Interview, he admitted he was driving under the influence in California and essentially lost consciousness at the wheel. He said he had no idea where he was going and only later understood the danger he posed to others—and himself, which at the time he didn’t seem to care about. This moment, he explained, led him to recognize he had a problem with alcohol.
With support from a friend, he started a journey of recovery. In December 2025, he celebrated 50 years of sobriety and shared a message of hope with others who are facing the same struggles he once did.
He urged people to embrace life in an Instagram message, repeating the word ‘life’ multiple times for emphasis: “Choose life instead of the opposite. Life, life, life, and more life.”

The Valley star shared his decades-long battle with drugs in March 2025 after going to rehab.
Jax revealed on the March 4th episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast that he’s struggling with addiction, specifically with cocaine. He admitted it was difficult to talk about.
He explained that he’s struggled with this issue intermittently since he was 23, and now, at 45, it continues to come and go. He’d sometimes stop for a while, but then other times he’d really focus on it.
Let me tell you, making big life changes can be incredibly empowering. I recently decided to stop drinking, and honestly, it wasn’t about thinking I had a problem with alcohol itself. For me, it was linked to other things – I realized I couldn’t manage one without the other. So, I made the choice to give up both, and I’m really proud of it! I’m currently at 82, 83 days sober, which is the longest stretch of my life without either, and it feels amazing.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by people taking control of their well-being, and Tom Holland’s story is a great example. He recently shared that he stopped drinking in 2022 because he felt it had become a real struggle for him – he openly admitted to being addicted and really owning that. He even said that if you’re having a beer every day, it’s worth taking a look at your relationship with alcohol and seeing if it’s becoming a problem. It’s so brave of him to talk about it, and I think it’s a really important message.
The actor explained that it always came down to regretting that final drink. The next morning would inevitably bring a splitting headache.
Honestly, ever since he made that change, it’s like a totally new person! He’s told me he’s actually sleeping better, which is amazing, and he just seems so much more… capable of dealing with everything life throws at him. It’s incredible to see, seriously!
He explained that he was much calmer and more able to handle problems on set. He felt mentally clear, healthier, and in better physical shape.

Sean Connery, famous for his role in Hunt for Red October, rarely discusses his recovery, which started nearly four decades ago.
He rarely talks about his sobriety, only mentioning it occasionally when it feels relevant. He shared that he’s been sober for 39 years, since February 23, 1985, during a podcast interview in May 2024.
Alec described a difficult period following his move to Los Angeles in 1983, admitting to a severe cocaine addiction. He said he used an enormous amount of the drug for two years, comparing its prevalence at the time to that of coffee – many people were using it constantly.
And after quitting the drug, he soon turned to alcohol—only to also quit that dependency.
Today, he relies on the city around him.
He finds New York City incredibly calming. He loves simply walking around and discovering new details he’s never seen before – like noticing interesting features on buildings he’s passed countless times. He also enjoys spending time with friends over lunch or coffee.

In April 2024, Anne Hathaway, known for her role in The Princess Diaries, revealed she’s been sober for over five years. She told The New York Times that reaching this point felt like a significant achievement.
She explained her decision simply. “I realized I wasn’t truly interested,” she said. “It felt strange to have to explain that I didn’t want any at all. But if you have a serious allergy, you don’t question it. I realized I needed to stop questioning my own feelings.”
She’s glad she made the change. “It’s improved everything for me personally,” she explained. “Before, I was stuck in a negative cycle, and I just didn’t want to feel that way anymore.”

While receiving the 2018 Woman of the Year Award from the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House—a program helping women recover from substance and alcohol abuse—Moore discussed how she almost lost her career due to a harmful lifestyle.
I believe we all have key moments that shape our lives and future. Early in my career, I was heading down a very destructive path, and despite any successes, I constantly felt inadequate. I had very little self-worth, and this quickly led to a crisis. At the time, I didn’t understand why, but it felt like something—perhaps fate—intervened.
As someone who’s seen a lot of transformations, I can tell you a little nudge can sometimes be everything. I actually sought help back in 2012, and it was two people – honestly, people I barely knew – who really lit a fire under me. They basically told me, with a lot of love, that I needed to get my act together, or face the consequences. I always joke that they said, ‘Unless you’re gone, you better show up!’ But seriously, they gave me the kick I needed to change direction before I completely derailed my life. It was such a gift, giving me a chance to get back on track.
Moore reflected that others recognized potential in her that she hadn’t seen in herself. She expressed deep gratitude for their belief in her, saying she wouldn’t have achieved her current success without their support.

Miley Cyrus revealed in 2022 that she’s been working on overcoming her Xanax addiction since 2020. She told Rolling Stone that recovery provided much-needed stability during a difficult time. “It gave me something to focus on and helped me stay positive,” she explained.
The singer explained that once they discovered a way to briefly escape their pain, everything changed. They said, “Once I realized I could tune things out for a moment and feel nothing, that was the end of it.”
She explained that her friends back then seemed to accept her drug use, which contributed to a downward spiral she described as a “dark, bottomless pit.” During the pandemic, however, Cyrus realized she was struggling and felt disconnected. She remembers frequently falling asleep and being unable to stay awake, admitting she was deeply affected by her substance use.
She eventually sought help and noted that “it took some time to get on my own two feet.”

In his 2025 documentary, Stans, Eminem opened up about his past struggles with prescription pills. He shared that an overdose and missing his daughter Hailie Jade’s birthday were turning points that led him to change his life.
He explained that he started crying because he realized he was on the verge of repeating a past mistake. He described a harsh internal monologue, repeatedly asking himself if he really wanted to miss out on life again. He urged himself to persevere, even if it wasn’t for his own sake, then at least to do it for the people he cared about.
Focusing on making music again was a key part of the Oscar winner’s recovery from addiction.
He described how it activated a light. More importantly, he said he’d stopped feeling ashamed of being sober. He’d begun to see his sobriety as a strength, and he was proud of overcoming his addiction.

The former star of Parenthood had been sober for 16 years when they had a relapse in 2020. This happened after a motorcycle accident and led to them taking Vicodin.
He explained on his Armchair Expert podcast that he’s been taking prescription medication consistently for about the past two months, and he’s also been taking additional amounts beyond the prescribed dosage.
He went on to say he hated what was happening, and that he was deceiving those around him. He knew he needed to stop, but his tolerance was increasing so fast that he was now taking eight pills a day. He was terrified, knowing that stopping would cause severe withdrawal symptoms, and he felt incredibly isolated, burdened by a huge secret.

In 2018, the actress known for her role in Halloween openly discussed her decade-long struggle with opioid addiction. It began in the late 1980s after a small cosmetic procedure to address her naturally puffy eyes. The resulting prescription dramatically altered her life. She told People magazine, “I spent ten years stealing and deceiving people. No one had any idea.”
In the summer of 1998, Curtis reached a low point when her sister came to visit and brought pain medication for a broken rib. Remembering the event brought her to tears as she described taking all of the pills. She knew her sister would discover they were missing before leaving, so she confessed in a note left on the suitcase. When her sister returned home that day, she embraced Curtis, expressing her love and concern, and stating she couldn’t bear to watch Curtis destroy herself.
Jamie Lee Curtis went to her first support group meeting on February 3, 1999, and on that same day, she told her husband, filmmaker Christopher Guest, about her past struggles with addiction. She explained that he was surprised he hadn’t realized she was going through it, and she has remained sober ever since.

Drew Barrymore, who has openly discussed her past struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, revealed in 2021 that she had reached a significant point in her recovery. During an appearance on CBS Mornings, she shared that she’d been sober for two and a half years, explaining that alcohol simply wasn’t benefiting her life anymore.
It’s amazing how freeing and nerve-wracking it feels to finally share who you are, what you believe in, and everything you’ve achieved.
Drew Barrymore told the Los Angeles Times she avoids calling herself “sober” because she doesn’t want to come across as overly strict or judgmental.
In 2023, she explained that she used to tell herself, ‘I’ll get the hang of this, I’ll find a way to make it work.’ But eventually, she came to a different conclusion: ‘I’m not going to master this, and that’s okay.’

Oh my god, it was so rough for Bradley back in the early 2000s. I mean, he was battling a cocaine addiction, and it was just heartbreaking to hear about. Thankfully, his amazing friend Will Arnett actually intervened! Will just straight-up confronted him about what was happening, and I honestly don’t know where Bradley would be today without that intervention. It’s just… Will saved him, truly.
Cooper shared in a 2022 podcast interview that it was the first time he truly acknowledged his struggles with drugs and alcohol, a moment he said he’ll never forget.
Cooper explained that Arnett’s honest and difficult conversation was the turning point that led him to get sober and change his life.

The actor, known for his role in Fight Club, battled alcohol addiction for years before Bradley Cooper helped him achieve sobriety. Accepting an award from Cooper at the 2020 National Board of Review Annual Awards, he shared, “I got sober because of this guy, and I’ve been happier every day since.”

In September 2023, the former Cruel Intentions star revealed on Instagram that they had gone longer without using nicotine or marijuana – or any substances, really – than they had since their teenage years.
He expressed gratitude for overcoming addiction and dependency, saying that achieving sobriety brings a sense of clarity and a deeper spiritual connection, which feels truly good.

In 2018, the singer celebrated six years of sobriety while on tour, but later that year surprised her fans with the release of her honest single, “Sober,” in which she admitted to having relapsed.
She sang, filled with regret, apologizing to her parents for losing control and to those who have always been there for her, admitting she’s fallen back into old patterns. She repeatedly expressed her sorrow for not being sober.
A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.
In a recent Instagram post, she shared an update on her ongoing struggle with addiction. She explained that it’s a lifelong battle, not something that simply goes away. She needs to prioritize her healing and recovery, and is grateful for the incredible support she’s received. She’s hopeful for the future and determined to continue fighting for her sobriety, and looks forward to a day when she can confidently say she’s overcome this challenge.

In 2018, she spoke about her struggles with sex and alcohol addiction. She explained that her addictions tended to change over time, and when she was younger, she believed sex could solve any problem. She then described realizing she was developing a serious issue with drinking.
She recalled a particularly low point when she was home alone and had already finished two bottles of wine, about to open a third. That’s when she realized she might have a drinking problem.
I just stopped completely. That’s something I’m able to do – I can quit things cold turkey. I tend to get really into things, almost obsessively, so I always have to be careful. It’s not necessarily what you’re doing, but how and why you’re doing it. It’s the motivations behind the behavior that matter. For example, wanting to have a lot of sex is fine, but you need to understand why you want that.

Backstreet Boy AJ McLean revealed he first experimented with drugs right before filming the music video for their 2000 hit, “The Call.” He later told Good Morning America that he was feeling extremely out of control during the shoot. After a setback, he got sober in 2021 and saw significant improvements in his health within a year, including losing 32 pounds in seven months by giving up alcohol and junk food.
I’ve been following his journey closely, and I was so moved by what he shared with People back in July 2025. He said he’s fully committed to staying on track, and that it’s something he works on every single day. What really struck me was when he said he finally took the advice of others in recovery, and it’s completely turned his life around for the better. It’s incredibly inspiring to see!
While AJ acknowledged he is “still learning, still growing,” he’s now confident in who he is.
I’ve been learning to set personal boundaries, which is something I never did before. It’s really helpful. ‘AJ’ is a stage name or character I use, but it doesn’t change who I really am – I’m Alexander James.

Following the unexpected death of Mac Miller, rapper Bow Wow, whose real name is Shad Moss, shared on Twitter that he had previously struggled with an addiction to cough syrup, often called ‘lean’. He explained that during the time he and Omarion worked on their album ‘FACE OFF’, he was using lean daily. He admitted to being high on the substance during a memorable on-stage confrontation with Torae on BET, and that it negatively affected his behavior and relationships with fans and family. While he never glorified drug use in his music, he was addicted to lean throughout the UCP tour with Chris Brown, consuming it at least seven times a day. He recounted a frightening experience in Cincinnati where he collapsed backstage and woke up in the hospital suffering withdrawal symptoms.
Bow Wow described the withdrawal pain as unlike anything he’d ever felt, leaving him constantly cold even in the summer. He missed performances in Chicago and Baltimore due to being high and sick, and regretted using drugs to appear cool. He urged young people to avoid drugs, be good to their families, and strive to be their best selves, stating he would be more open about his past experiences to help save others. He emphasized the importance of parents talking to their children about the dangers of drugs, and expressed his fear of losing more young people to addiction, revealing he nearly died from his syrup use.
He concluded by sharing that his stomach has never fully recovered, and reiterated his commitment to staying drug-free. He encouraged his fans to be smart, focused, and to break the cycle of drug use, expressing his love and concern for young artists and fans around the world.

In 2018, the singer opened up about her struggles with addiction, coinciding with the release of her album No Shame and her memoir My Thoughts Exactly. She revealed she had been using cocaine and drinking heavily, describing herself as constantly intoxicated. Things came to a head when, after accidentally hitting Orlando Bloom with a headbutt at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party and knocking herself unconscious, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin intervened to help her.
In an interview with The Guardian, she described a period of deep unhappiness, saying that she felt nothing could bring her satisfaction. She recalled one morning considering heroin use, feeling that nothing else was helping her cope.

The actor best known for The Parent Trap struggled with cocaine addiction during the 1980s, eventually entering rehab in 1990. He later shared on Today that he came of age in the 1960s and 70s, a time when attitudes towards drug use were very different.
He confessed that in the 1980s, he was using cocaine almost every day, to the point where it impacted his finances. He described desperately pleading with God to help him stop, often right before work, only to find himself rationalizing his use just a few hours later, thinking it wasn’t a big deal.
He described a powerful experience – what he called seeing a white light – where he felt like he was either dying or losing everything important in his life. He then had to explain this to his then-fiancée, Meg Ryan, and afterwards, he decided to get help. He says this marked the end of his struggle with cocaine.

I was really concerned when I heard about what happened with Ryan Lochte in Newport Beach – apparently, he tried to force open his hotel room door. It led him to finally seek help in 2018, which I think is a brave step. His representative shared that he’s been struggling with alcohol addiction for a long time, and it had become a really damaging cycle for him. Thankfully, he realized he needed professional support to get better and committed to getting help right away. I’m hoping he gets the support he needs and continues on a path to wellness.
The statement ended by saying Ryan understands overcoming this illness is crucial, not only to prevent future regrets but also to be a good husband and father, and to have a chance at competing in his fifth Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 and regaining his top form.

Okay, so everyone says you can’t get sober for someone else, and I totally get that logically. But honestly? Seeing Jason Ritter with Melanie Lynskey just… it made me realize how much he wanted to be his best self, and she was a huge part of that! He’s talked about how their relationship really inspired him to finally quit drinking, and it’s just the sweetest thing ever. I mean, they’re perfect together, and it’s amazing to see how supportive they are of each other’s journeys.
He realized how wonderful she was and believed she deserved someone truly great, but he didn’t think he was that person. As he shared on The Drew Barrymore Show in March 2023, he felt he was ‘a little bit too crazy’ for her.
However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.
He remembered that in the beginning of their relationship, it was simpler to justify his actions by saying he was doing them for her. He admitted he didn’t value himself much then and was more concerned with protecting her feelings than his own. Initially, claiming he was motivated by love for her felt easier, but now he’s focused on doing things for his own well-being.

The country singer has been sober for almost ten years, but reaching this point was a difficult journey. His struggle with alcohol and painkillers started shortly after high school and continued even as his career grew. He shared with People magazine that he always kept a black leather laptop bag nearby, filled with Jagermeister or vodka, and would drink from it every hour and a half to two hours. He also admitted to taking pills every three to four hours.
It didn’t hinder his achievements at all. “I wasn’t falling apart,” he explained. “Actually, I was more productive then – I wrote more songs back then than I do today, and that’s what really worried me.”
In late 2011, he ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis and received a stark warning: if he didn’t quit drinking, he might not live to see his next birthday. He admitted he kept delaying the inevitable, attempting to cut back on his own. “I’d tell myself things like, ‘Okay, just two pills today,’ or ‘I’ll only drink this much from the bottle,’ and I’d even mark the bottle to keep track,” he remembered. “It would work for a couple of days, but then someone would have a party and it all fell apart.”
Eventually, he realized he needed professional help and entered a rehabilitation program on December 18, 2011. He explained, “I finally admitted I couldn’t overcome this on my own.” He was frustrated and ashamed, saying, “It really bothered me, and I’m usually a very determined person, but this was the one thing I just couldn’t control.”
