David Harbour won’t begrudge anyone their voice.
However, that didn’t mean he was happy about the attention surrounding his ex-wife, Lily Allen’s, October 2025 album, West End Girl. The album details their difficult breakup and includes accusations that he, the Stranger Things star, was unfaithful.
In a recent interview with Variety published on June 10th, David Harbour described the situation as strange. He stated that he believes artists should be able to draw on their personal experiences for their work, and he respects the artist in question for doing so.
Harbour doesn’t want to discuss the details of the private matters Allen mentions in her album, including rumors of a secret apartment—nicknamed the “Pussy Palace”—where she supposedly had more intimate encounters than those she openly allowed.
He explained that stories are complicated, and he admired how she used art to express what she’d gone through. He emphasized that her experiences were her own, different from his.
This is the first time the 51-year-old has spoken about Allen’s album since it was released eight months ago, but he likely won’t be discussing it further.
He stated that his personal life is something he keeps private. Despite many people wanting to know about it, he cherishes his privacy and respects the privacy of those he’s close to, and therefore won’t discuss it publicly.
Harbour had hinted at his breakup with Allen before, offering only a brief “Oh boy” to British GQ in April 2025 when asked about it.

She told British Vogue in October that while some details about her marriage have been made public, not everything reported is entirely true. She clarified that the stories are based on what happened during the relationship, but aren’t necessarily a complete or accurate account.
The 41-year-old artist explained that she wrote her first musical piece in seven years, West End Girl, as a way to process feelings of “confusion, sadness, grief, and helplessness.”
As she put it, “It was a way for me to process what was happening in my life.”
Even then, months before Allen’s album would drop, he was hesitant to add any fuel to the flames.
He explained that he deliberately shields his personal life and loved ones from unwanted attention. He believes responding to tabloid stories is pointless, as they rely on exaggeration and sensationalism.
Allen, who finalized her divorce from Harbour in 2024, has stated that while her book, West End Girl, is inspired by real life, it isn’t a completely factual account.
