In my younger years, there was a TV show that had a slightly rebellious feel to it. This show was often imitated by our friends at school in an echo-like manner. During those times, the program was Monty Python’s Flying Circus, and schools everywhere would resound with phrases like “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!” or “My hovercraft is full of eels.
Over time, my love for cinema evolved, and so did the catchphrases that echoed through our living rooms, often borrowed from comedies I cherished deeply. From Not the Nine O’Clock News to The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, The Armstrong and Miller Show, and not forgetting That Mitchell and Webb Look, these shows left an indelible mark on my comedy-loving heart with their iconic catchphrases.
Fifteen years have passed since the series ended, yet this week, David Mitchell and Robert Webb return to our screens, delivering humorous sketches once again. It’s uncertain if students these days still quote TV humor, but if they don’t, they might want to start by rekindling the tradition with some of the hilarious content found in Mitchell and Webb: They Really Don’t Help!
In addition, Ann Ming’s remarkable tale is part of this matter as well. She battled the judiciary and managed to change an 800-year-old law, a story that has been brought to life on screen with Sheridan Smith in the main role. By the end, if you’re like me, you might find yourself questioning where Ann drew the strength and resolve needed to accomplish such a feat.
Following your reading of the feature, make sure not to forget to watch the impressive “I Fought the Law” airing on ITV1 this Sunday and Monday instead.
