David Tennant confirmed to host episode of beloved BBC show – and it’s very soon

David Tennant will be guest hosting the popular news quiz show, Have I Got News For You, and his first episode is airing very soon.

This popular comedy show features two teams, captained by Ian Hislop and Paul Merton, who battle it out by answering questions about current events.

The show also features a rotating guest host and two guest panelists, who prioritize adding funny, satirical commentary over judging the competition.

As a huge fan of both ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Saturday Night Live,’ I’m really excited to hear David Tennant is hosting again! This will be his tenth time, and it’s the season finale, which is awesome. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him host – his last appearance was back in 2025, so it’s great to have him back for the final show!

His episode will air on Friday 5 June at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

This week’s show features Michael Gove, a former Conservative MP, making his debut appearance. Comedian Chloe Petts also joins the panel – this will be her fourth time on the programme.

The show is back for its 71st season! It first started in 1990, originally on BBC Two, and has been on BBC One since the year 2000.

This season’s guests have also included gardener Monty Don, sports presenter Gabby Logan, and comedians Roy Wood Jr., Sue Perkins, Richard Ayoade, Alexander Armstrong, and Katherine Ryan. Journalist and broadcaster Steph McGovern also joined them.

David Tennant became a household name in 2005 when he started playing the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who, a role he enjoyed for five years. He became a fan favorite, particularly for the chemistry between his Doctor and his companion, Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper.

I’m a huge fan of David Tennant! Besides Doctor Who, I’ve really enjoyed his work as DI Alec Hardy in Broadchurch – that show was gripping. And, of course, he was brilliant as Barty Crouch Jr. in the Harry Potter films. More recently, I’ve loved watching him play Crowley in Good Omens on Amazon Prime; he’s just fantastic in everything he does!

You won’t have to wait long to see Tennant in another role – the second season of Rivals starts this Friday, May 15th.

You can watch the latest episode of Have I Got News For You on Friday, May 15th, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Previous episodes will also be repeated throughout the week.
