Davina McCall announces breast cancer diagnosis: ‘I’m on my journey to stop it coming back’

Davina McCall, 58, revealed she has breast cancer in a heartfelt video posted to Instagram today, November 8th. She explained she found a lump during a self-examination.

The TV presenter shared that the lump was tiny and discovered at a very early stage. She expressed her relief that it had been successfully removed and hadn’t spread to other parts of her body.

McCall, who used to host Big Brother, said she initially felt furious when she learned she had cancer, but now feels much more optimistic.

She encouraged everyone to regularly check their breasts for lumps. She explained that she’d noticed a lump a few weeks prior that would appear and disappear. While working on the show The Masked Singer, she saw signs posted by Lorraine Kelly (host of the TV show Lorraine) reminding people to perform breast self-exams.

She explained that she noticed it every time she used the restroom, and it wouldn’t go away. Then, one morning, she saw it in the mirror and decided she needed to get it checked by a doctor.

I recently had a biopsy, and it confirmed I had breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy – a surgery to remove the cancer – almost three weeks ago. Thankfully, the tests on the removed tissue showed clear margins, meaning the cancer was completely removed.

She relieved her fans by sharing that the cancer hadn’t spread, explaining her lymph nodes were clear and she hadn’t needed any removed.

In the video, McCall explained that she’ll be having five days of radiotherapy in January as a preventative measure, and then will focus on staying cancer-free.

Dame Barbara McCall expressed her gratitude to the staff at the Royal Marsden Hospital, as well as her family and children. She also gave a special thank you to her partner, Michael Douglas.

Fans and friends, including Amanda Holden and Elizabeth Day, showered her post with love and support.

Lorraine is thrilled that Davina noticed their Change+Check sticker, leading to an early cancer diagnosis. She explains that the campaign’s goal is to increase awareness and ultimately save lives, and she sends Davina her best wishes, acknowledging the difficult journey Davina has faced and praising her strength.

I recently learned that actress Kate McCall underwent surgery last year after a routine health check-up flagged a benign brain tumor – a colloid cyst, specifically. It was discovered during a check-up related to her important work advocating for menopause awareness, and thankfully, the surgery went well. It’s inspiring to see her using her platform while also prioritizing her health.
