Day 4 Night announces genre-bending action adventure game Bradley the Badger for PC

Day 4 Night, a studio created by Christian Cantamessa, who led design and writing on Red Dead Redemption, and Davide Soliani, the creative director of the Mario + Rabbids series, has revealed its new game, Bradley the Badger. This action adventure game will first be available on PC through Steam, and the team is considering bringing it to other consoles and platforms later. They haven’t announced when the game will be released.

Christian Cantamessa, co-founder of Day 4 Night Studios, described their game, Bradley, as both a celebration and a playful critique of video games. He explained that the game is a story inspired by the team’s own experiences creating games, capturing everything from the challenges of self-doubt to the excitement of world-building. Their goal was to create a truly immersive experience for players.

Davide Soliani, a co-founder, explained that they aimed to create a game that would recapture the excitement they felt when they first discovered video games. They wanted to blend classic gameplay with modern mechanics, effectively connecting the history of gaming with its future.

Okay, so I’m playing this really weird game where I get to explore a bunch of unfinished worlds – they’re kinda like games I already know and love, but totally broken and stuck in development. The whole thing is told from the point of view of this super energetic, curious, and goofy video game mascot. Basically, I’m trying to figure out if Will Bradley can actually save Dreamwoods, and it’s a wild ride!

Core Gameplay: An Action-Adventure Like No Other

Get ready to jump, explore, and solve puzzles while battling with your trusty frying pan through strange, incomplete game worlds. Perhaps you’re the creative spark they need! You’ll find items, complete quests, and uncover hidden secrets. While Bradley thinks this might feel like a typical game, it’s going to be unlike anything he’s ever played.

The Kit

The core of our game revolves around a tool called the Kit. It allows players to alter any incomplete object they discover, giving them the power of a game developer. This system creates instant and dramatic changes to how you explore, move around, solve puzzles, and fight. It could even fundamentally change your experience of the game.

Here are some functions you’ll unlock:

  • Scale – Shrink or enlarge unfinished objects to open new paths, crush enemies, and redesign the environment.
  • Transfer – Assume control of every unfinished asset in the world (anything from a toy robot to a car) to gain new abilities and movement options.
  • Tessellate – Make walls temporarily climbable to reach secret routes and vantage points.
  • Explosive – Turn innocuous objects into bombs, hazards into opportunities, and enemies into debris.
  • Extrude – Push or pull geometry from unfinished surfaces to create your own platforms, paths, and cover.
  • Manipulator – Grab, rotate and stack unfinished objects as if they were building blocks to solve problems in your own way.

Bradley’s journey continues, and he’s unlocking even more incredible abilities! He can now COPY, manipulate GRAVITY, LIQUIFY objects, and even DEBUG systems, with plenty more powers still to come.
