Suzanne Rogers is detailing a difficult chapter in her life.
The veteran actress from Days of Our Lives recently shared that she received a stage two colorectal cancer diagnosis earlier this summer. She had contacted her doctor because she wasn’t feeling well and knew something was off.
Suzanne recalled the doctor telling her he needed to order an MRI, a PET scan, and a biopsy. She told TV Insider that as soon as he listed those tests, she realized the situation was serious.
Following the tests, the 82-year-old actress—best known for playing Maggie Horton on the soap opera for more than 50 years—learned of her diagnosis.
The doctor told him he had cancer and needed to begin treatment, which came as a complete shock. He remembered being stunned for days, especially since he prided himself on being healthy. The doctor did offer some reassurance, though, saying it was fortunate they’d caught it early.
After her show, Days of Our Lives, took a break in June, Suzanne began daily radiation and chemotherapy treatments for six weeks, as her doctors recommended. While she appreciated not having to work while undergoing treatment, the demanding schedule was still difficult.
She said it was exhausting having to go to appointments five days a week, but she really cherished her weekends because she finally had a break from doctors. She was simply worn out from constantly seeing them.
Even with regular therapy sessions, Suzanne understood she needed to prioritize her recovery. She didn’t go through this alone, though. She later shared her diagnosis with her Days of Our Lives colleagues, Linsey Godfrey (who plays her on-screen daughter, Sarah Horton) and Paul Telfer (who plays Xander Kirakis).

I needed to get an infusion, which took about an hour and a half, and Linsey stayed with me, holding my hand during the process. We also enjoyed spending time with Linsey and her husband Paul, often going out to lunch or dinner with their daughter, Aleda. Knowing I could rely on them made the whole experience, both on and off set, really positive.
Soon after, other stars from the Peacock series—including Mary Beth Evans, Stephen Nichols, Greg Rikaart, and AnnaLynne McCord—reached out to send Suzanne their support. She finished her treatment by the end of July.
She’s returning to work next week and is cautiously optimistic about how it will go. She admitted to feeling the usual pre-project nerves, explaining that she always wants to deliver her best work and doesn’t want to delay anyone. She clarified that this anxiety isn’t related to her health condition.
