The DC Universe now has a new Batman, and this one is far more reckless and unpredictable than the traditional version. While Bruce Wayne is the most famous Batman, he isn’t the only one who’s worn the cape and cowl. Nightwing has stepped in as Batman twice before, and Jace Fox currently protects New York City as its own Batman. Beyond that, there have been many other official Batmen operating as part of Batman Inc. internationally. Bruce Wayne is unique, but having a few extra Batmen around isn’t a bad thing.
Let’s talk about the new Batman. It all began with a massive competition called DC K.O., where heroes and villains battled for incredible power to defeat Darkseid. Superman won, but instead of keeping the ultimate prize for himself, he shared it with everyone who fought. This energy is now changing people, and in one case, it’s giving a well-known character a fresh start – they’re now inspired by Batman and taking on a similar role.
Harley Quinn is DC’s Newest Dark Knight (At Least, Half of Her is)

Gotham City remains overrun with crime in Harley Quinn #60, written by Elliott Kalan with art by Carlos Olivares, Marissa Louise, and Lucas Gattoni. Criminals are exploiting the chaos caused by Vandal Savage’s hunt for Batman and Poison Ivy’s recent election as mayor. However, Harley Quinn is there to fight back, now with a slightly new look – including a cape, cowl, and a quickly-added Batman symbol. She quickly stops two thieves, taking them down with a forceful attack using a lead pipe disguised as a ‘batarang’ and breaking their legs before leaving them for the police.
Harley Quinn is acting very differently lately. Not only has she changed her look and fighting style, but she’s lost her playful, funny personality. She now speaks and acts completely seriously, almost like a dark version of Batman. Her friends notice the change and are worried, especially when she insists on being called ‘Batquinn.’ They try to help her relax, but she’s completely focused on her new, serious mission. During one of her patrols, she encounters a bank robbery committed by a new villain called the Gen Z Penny Plunderer.
Batquinn is caught in a tough fight with Penny Plunderer when Chicken Fingers, a local vigilante, unexpectedly joins the fray. Chicken Fingers gained powers from Harley’s energy and actively helps, pointing out how Penny reminds Harley of herself. Penny escapes, and Harley, upset, walks away. While everyone is talking about Harley’s struggles, she goes home and is shocked to find another version of herself already there – one that looks like her former psychologist.
Harley as a Bat is a Danger to Everyone, Including Herself

Harley Quinn may not have Batman’s skills or experience, but this story shows she’s incredibly dangerous as Batquinn. She’s taking on a very aggressive, Batman-like approach to crimefighting, using harsh methods and even getting into violent confrontations. While some of this behavior isn’t entirely unusual for her, doing it while dressed as a Batman-inspired hero suggests she’s becoming increasingly unstable.
I’m not sure how Superman giving Harley Quinn some of his energy caused her to split into two distinct personalities, or what the ‘normal’ version of her is even like. But I doubt this situation will last. While it’s intriguing to think of Harley becoming a more conventional hero, she’s misinterpreting Batman’s methods. She’s becoming extremely violent and withdrawn, failing to understand that Batman’s effectiveness comes from balance. Having Harley split into two people is already a problem, and adding the mental strain of trying to be a dark, brooding hero is just too much for her to handle.
Honestly, it’s been fascinating watching Harley really embrace this whole ‘Bat’ thing. But this latest issue really drove home how much danger she – and anyone who gets near Bat-Quinn – is in. It feels like without that voice of reason holding her back, Harley’s losing control, and the further she gets from that side of herself, the more reckless she becomes. I’m really worried she’s going to get in over her head, because Gotham is not a forgiving place for someone who isn’t fully prepared. I’m hoping she can get things sorted out soon, before things get truly awful.
