Most fans consider Batman to be the world’s greatest detective, but surprisingly, he thinks someone else is even better. He’s renowned for solving incredibly difficult mysteries in the DC Universe, thanks to decades of practice and a sharp mind. Over the years, Batman, or Bruce Wayne, has also worked hard to teach these detective skills to those he trusts most: his various Robins.
In the DC K.O.: Knightfight series, Batman is facing tough challenges that are forcing him to evaluate his former Robins. After Bruce Wayne unfairly won a tournament, the Heart of Apokolips is making him relive scenarios where each of his Robins grew up to become Batman. This is giving Bruce a new perspective on his partners, and he’s starting to realize that one former Boy Wonder might actually be an even better detective than he is.
Batman Admits It: Tim Drake is the Better Detective

In the third issue of DC. K.O.: Knightfight, written by Joshua Williamson with art by Dan Mora, colors by Triona Farrell, and lettering by Tom Napolitano, Batman finds himself battling Jason Todd within one of the Heart’s simulations. To gain an edge, Batman embraces the simulation’s power, temporarily gaining Clayface’s abilities and disrupting Jason’s fighting. Despite having the upper hand, Batman refuses to harm Jason and rescues him from a fall. This act of mercy begins to make Jason question the reality of their surroundings, which enrages the Heart and results in Batman being ejected from the simulation.
The Heart communicates to Batman that he must fully commit to the trials ahead, promising to bring him back to the tournament to aid his friends if he does. However, it cautions Bruce that future challenges will be as demanding on his mind as they are on his body. The Heart then transports Bruce to a different reality where Tim Drake is Batman. We see Tim wrapping up a case – he’s apparently solved every mystery and cold case in Gotham. Back at the Batcave, Tim discovers a strange code hidden within his computer.
The program Tim is interacting with is actually Bruce Wayne, whose mind has been transferred into a digital form. Even though Tim initially suspects a deception, Bruce finds a way to communicate with him. Using a holographic projector, Batman is able to speak directly to Tim, expressing how proud he is of everything Tim has accomplished. Bruce praises Tim for successfully solving every case in Gotham and even admits that Tim is more intelligent than he ever was, and a superior Batman.
Batman’s Right, Tim Has the Potential to be the World’s Greatest Detective

Batman isn’t exaggerating – he genuinely recognizes how talented Tim is as a detective, and it’s not just based on this current exercise. Tim is one of the very few people who ever figured out Batman’s secret identity, and he did so even before receiving any official training. Plus, when Bruce Wayne vanished during the Final Crisis event, Tim was the only one who correctly determined that Batman wasn’t dead, but lost in time. While all the Robins have their strengths, Tim’s greatest ability is his sharp power of deduction.
Of course, the simulation wasn’t real, and Tim isn’t about to become the new Batman or a better detective. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Batman’s assessment was accurate. Bruce understands each of his proteges and recognizes their individual talents. He’s witnessed Tim successfully solve challenging cases, and believes Tim would excel as Batman if he ever took on the mantle. Even though the Heart was manipulating Bruce, his genuine belief in Tim’s potential remains true.
Everyone understands Tim Drake won’t become the permanent Batman. However, it’s great to see his impressive detective skills acknowledged. He’s a fantastic detective, and it’s incredibly rewarding to have Batman – widely considered the world’s greatest – say Tim is even better. Whether it was a simulation or not, Bruce Wayne recognizes Tim’s intelligence and resourcefulness. Even though Tim likely won’t become Batman in the main DC Universe, it’s good to know Bruce has such high regard for him.
