The latest issue of *DC K.O.* #1 has shaken up the DC Universe by merging it with Darkseid’s world. The story quickly throws heroes and villains into a deadly challenge – a brutal competition to save everything. Sadly, not everyone survives; nine heroes die during the gauntlet, including a surprising member of DC’s famous Trinity. Be warned: spoilers ahead if you haven’t read *DC K.O.* #1 yet!
Before the tournament starts, the heroes must first navigate a chaotic portal to even qualify. The journey is brutal, and several are quickly eliminated, including Adam Strange, Ambush Bug, and Shazam. The biggest shock comes right as the portal closes: Batman is fatally impaled by a harpoon fired by the Joker.
Batman heavily influenced the events leading to this crisis, constantly pushing Superman to compete and win the tournament. He believed victory was the only way to save everyone and the entire universe. This went against Superman’s instincts, particularly since he was fighting alongside and against his friends, but Batman insisted it was necessary for their survival. Batman’s persistent message finally seemed to get through to Superman, who then defeated numerous opponents to reach the portal in time.
DC K.O. Kills 9 Heroes, and It’s Only the First Issue
We were completely stunned that Batman was defeated so quickly, especially by The Joker and right in front of Superman. He wasn’t the only major hero to fall, though – several other powerful members of the Justice League were taken out of the fight before Superman even arrived.
Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, had one of the most notable deaths that wasn’t directly shown. The comic depicts a chaotic battle where heroes are struggling, and it suggests Jordan might be killed, but the actual event happens off-panel. His death is confirmed later on the cover of *DC K.O.* #2, which features statues of the heroes who fell in battle, including him.
The same fate befalls John Stewart, with his death confirmed almost immediately, even before we see much of him in the fight. We do, however, witness Shazam quickly defeated – he’s knocked out early in the battle by a powerful blow from a mace, sending him crashing to the ground.
Wow, things are getting intense! We just lost a bunch of heroes – Traps took down Damage and Adam Strange, then Green Arrow fell to the Omega Demons. And just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, the Joker eliminated Batman! It was a total shock because those villains weren’t even supposed to be in the fight! In the final moments, Blue Beetle and Jordan were also defeated. That brings the current death toll to nine, leaving just thirty-two champions still standing. It’s a real fight for the fate of the universe now – will they restore order, or will someone twist things to their own dark vision? Here’s a rundown of who’s still in the running and who’s already fallen.
