James Gunn, the co-chairman of DC Studios and creator of *Peacemaker*, intentionally withheld the final three episodes of the show’s latest season from critics. Now that Episode 6, titled “Ignorance is Chris,” has aired, it’s clear why. The episode confirmed many popular fan theories while still delivering a surprising twist. Gunn, who directed and wrote the episode, included a specific detail during a scene with Rick Flag Sr. that’s guaranteed to fuel an already intense debate among fans – a debate that began with the release of *Superman* (2025) earlier this year. Be warned: spoilers ahead.
Rick Flag Sr. travels to Louisiana and the Bell Reeve Prison to meet with Lex Luthor, who is now incarcerated after nearly destroying Metropolis by opening a dimensional rift during his battle with Superman. However, Luthor’s knowledge of dimensional travel is exactly why Flag Sr. is willing to make a deal with him: to locate Peacemaker and obtain the alien technology powering the Quantum Unfolding Chamber.
A Month After Superman, Lex Still Suffers from His Injuries Caused by Krypto

Some viewers of *Superman* have pointed out a curious detail: it could be argued that Krypto, Superman’s dog, actually defeated Lex Luthor, not Superman himself. During the final battle, Krypto viciously attacks Luthor, leaving him badly injured. While Superman tells Krypto to stop, he doesn’t actively intervene to pull him off. This has led some fans to question Superman’s commitment to preserving life, especially considering his willingness to save even small creatures like squirrels, while seemingly allowing Krypto to severely injure Luthor.
At the end of *Superman*, Lex Luthor is driven away in a government vehicle headed to Belle Reeve, needing help to walk and with his arm in a sling – a result of Krypto biting his shoulder. James Gunn has stated that *Peacemaker* takes place a month later, and Luthor still being injured shows just how badly Krypto hurt him. It’s even possible Lex suffered a lasting injury, which would create an interesting contrast with Superman’s strong moral code.
The scene with Krypto attacking Lex Luthor in *Superman* was meant to be funny. While Luthor had previously harmed both Krypto and Superman, the more serious tone of *Peacemaker* highlights how brutal Krypto’s attack actually was, and suggests Superman misjudged the situation. The fact that Luthor’s injuries carried over between the two shows was a clever way to connect the stories. If Superman and Luthor are going to work together in the upcoming *Man of Tomorrow* sequel, Superman might need to address and apologize for Krypto’s attack at the LuthorCorp tower.
