Troubling times are coming for Wonder Woman, as someone is manipulating her daughter into fighting against her. We first met Elizabeth Marston Prince, known as Trinity, the child of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor, not long ago. It took some time to learn Trinity’s true origins, but they were revealed at the start of the DC All In event. After Steve Trevor was killed by the Sovereign, a hidden ruler of America, Wonder Woman created Trinity by combining fragments of her own soul and Steve’s, and giving them life within a clay form – a process similar to how Wonder Woman herself was created.
Trinity’s life is a bit confusing because her adventures happen in the future, but currently, she’s still a baby. After recently freeing Moray Island from the villain Mouse Man, Wonder Woman went back to Themyscira to rest and prepare for future challenges. She left her daughter, Trinity, with her sisters, but they started behaving strangely due to the influence of Strife, the goddess of discord. However, Strife’s plans go beyond just causing trouble, and Trinity is key to what she’s planning.
Strife Has Planted a Seed to Turn Trinity Against the Amazons

In Wonder Woman #30, written by Stephanie Williams with art by Jeff Spokes and Clayton Cowles, the villain Strife has put the Amazons in a difficult position. She’s taken advantage of their individual beliefs about how to best care for baby Elizabeth, causing them to fight amongst themselves over her protection. As the Amazons descend into conflict, a golden apple appears, and only Bia realizes they are falling right into Strife’s trap. When Eris eats the apple, she’s able to create copies of the Amazons, each representing their worst qualities.
Yara, Nubia, Donna, Cassie, and other Amazons are battling dark versions of themselves, who cruelly exploit their deepest fears. The situation is dire, but Wonder Woman arrives to help, bolstering their spirits and reminding them of their strengths. Working together, they resist the attacks of Eris, the goddess of discord. Ultimately, it’s Elizabeth’s pure heart and inability to grasp conflict that defeats Strife. Her innocence shatters Strife’s power, breaking the golden apple and leaving Eris with only a single seed. She snatches it up and vanishes, warning the Amazons that their peace won’t last forever.
With their victory over Eris celebrated, the Amazons are unaware that the goddess has moved on, though frustrated she only managed to sow a single seed of discord. This seed will blossom when a certain child first feels doubt. Eris, warned by dark spirits about Elizabeth’s increasing power, remains confident, believing that even the most perfect world has a hidden weakness. While the Amazons prepare for the coming Wonder War, Eris knows the real conflict is brewing in secret.
Trinity Will Turn Against Wonder Woman When She Least Expects It

Although the recent events involving Eris felt like a brief detour, I think they’re going to be important in future issues of Wonder Woman. This storyline has focused on Elizabeth as an adult, and the upcoming “Wonder War” will be the first time Diana teams up with Trinity. It would be a great time for this subplot involving Strife to resurface and complicate Wonder Woman and Trinity’s efforts to defeat the Matriarch, who is the main villain of the next story arc.
Fans of Trinity know she’s usually self-assured and decisive. However, facing a genocidal Amazon like the Matriarch is far more difficult than her previous adventures, like tracking down corgis through time and space. During the “Wonder War” storyline, Trinity might actually begin to doubt herself if the Matriarch proves to be a truly formidable opponent. This could be exactly what Eris wants, allowing her scheme to unfold and create major complications for Diana and Elizabeth’s plans. If Eris can turn Trinity against her mother, stopping the Matriarch could become nearly impossible.
It’s possible this storyline will unfold later, but Eris is already working on a plan to pit Trinity against Wonder Woman. While it might not happen immediately, she’s determined to create conflict. When it does, it will likely be a major threat to Wonder Woman and the Amazons. As we’ve seen, the Amazons are strongest when they’re united, but a disagreement – particularly between a mother and daughter – could seriously harm Wonder Woman’s legacy.
