Batman is coming back in a new DC project planned for 2025, and this time, Robin will be included. The extended Batman family is a significant part of the character’s history in the comics, but live-action movies haven’t fully explored those relationships. Fortunately, animated Batman series and films have done a much better job of showcasing the Bat-Family.
James Gunn’s new DC Universe will address the issue of inconsistent live-action Batman portrayals. This is because the upcoming DCU Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, will feature Damian Wayne as Robin – the same version of the character that will appear in other upcoming Batman projects, with a sneak peek already released.
DC Has Revealed What Bat-Fam’s Damian Wayne Looks Like
As a big Batman fan, I was surprised to hear that after the animated Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires project, the Dark Knight’s next outing will also be animated! It’s a new series called Bat-Fam, and it’s hitting Prime Video on November 10th. What’s really cool is that it’s a spin-off from the fun little holiday movie Merry Little Batman that came out in 2023. I’m excited to see where they take the Bat-Family in this new series!
The comic series Bat-Fam focuses on the extended family of Batman, but with a unique twist. It features unexpected members like a ghostly Ra’s al Ghul and Man-Bat alongside familiar faces. A central character is Damian Wayne, who, in Merry Little Batman, takes on the role of ‘Little Batman’ to defend his home from various villains.
This Damian Wayne won’t be portrayed as the typical Robin we’re used to seeing in DC comics and films. Instead, he’s taking on a Batman-like role, and as shown in the trailer for Bat-Fam, he wears a smaller version of Bruce Wayne’s Batsuit. The costume maintains the classic black and grey colors with a yellow chest emblem, but features slightly longer ears than Bruce’s version.
How Bat-Fam’s Damian Wayne Compares To Other Versions Of The DC Hero?
The new DC series will show Damian Wayne as a young Batman, which is a departure from how he’s usually portrayed. Although he’s often appeared as Robin in animated projects, Damian has actually taken on the role of Batman in several comic book storylines.
However, there’s a significant difference between the Bat-Fam series and the traditional Batman comics. In Bat-Fam, Damian Wayne is essentially a version of Batman even while he’s still Robin and the same age as in the comics. Usually, in other stories like DCeased or future timelines, Damian only becomes Batman in alternate universes. This makes Bat-Fam offer a fresh perspective on DC’s fourth Robin.
