February is off to a great start for DC Comics! It’s hard to believe January is already over and we’re starting a new month of releases. Like usual, we have some Absolute Universe books and a new issue of Batman. This week also brought some fun specials, including DC K.O. Boss Battle #1 and a Valentine’s Day themed Superman: Chains of Love Special #1 – which reminds me, I need to think about a gift!
The DC Universe was packed with exciting events this week! Between the wild crossover in the bonus stage of DC K.O. and a major change for one of Batman’s allies, there was plenty to discuss. DC often kicks off the month with memorable moments, and this past week delivered. From the arrival of new villains to the start of a new romance, a lot happened. Here are 5 moments you might have missed.
5. The Debut of Absolute Parasite

Superman has defeated Ra’s al Ghul, but a new threat has emerged in the Absolute Universe. Talia al Ghul, seeking revenge for her father, sabotaged the government’s attempt to contain Lazarus Corps’ research. She had a Peacemaker agent target a specific container, unleashing ‘Project: Parasite.’ This transformed an ordinary man into a monstrous, kaiju-sized version of one of Superman’s greatest enemies – a giant creature covered in flesh and extra mouths. Now, this terrifying monster is attacking Metropolis, and the only ones who can try to stop it are the unexpected team of Hawkman and Superman. What happens next is a mystery, but it promises to be exciting!
4. DC Comics’ Crossover Madness

DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1 takes place between issues three and four of the main series. The story sends a team of fighters on a quest beyond the multiverse to collect more Omega Energy. This leads to some unexpected matchups, like Superman versus Homelander and Lex Luthor against Samantha Strong from Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees. While the issue isn’t perfect, Lex Luthor’s panicked reaction to facing a killer bear is one of the funniest moments I’ve seen this year, and the highlights are definitely worth a look.
3. Livewire and Creeper Become DC’s New Power Couple

You know, it’s funny where you find love sometimes! I recently read this Superman comic, “Chains of Love Special #1,” and it was surprisingly sweet. It followed Jack Ryder, the Creeper, falling for Livewire. It had all the classic romance tropes – a cute first meeting, them slowly starting to care for each other, even a little bit of doubt if they’d actually work out. But, in true comic book fashion, the Creeper pulled off this huge, slightly crazy gesture – he actually weaponized internet negativity! – and, of course, love won out. It was really heartwarming to see the Creeper and Livewire end up happy together.
2. Bruce Wayne Re-Enters the DC K.O. Competition

Batman was unexpectedly eliminated from the main DC K.O. competition, but he was given another opportunity to compete in the DC K.O.: Knightfight miniseries. After a tough battle, he faced his greatest challenge yet: a perfect reality where his son, Damian, had successfully saved Gotham and even started a family of his own. Despite this seemingly ideal world, Batman proved his worth to the Heart of Apokolips and earned his way back into the tournament. The story ends with a cliffhanger, but it’s clear we’ll see Batman continue competing in next week’s DC K.O. #4.
1. Tim Drake Quits Being Robin

We’ve been hearing rumors since Jim Lee’s cover for Batman #6 came out, but it’s true – Tim Drake has stepped down as Robin. After getting hurt early in the series, Tim had an honest talk with Bruce, explaining he couldn’t keep hiding his identity as Robin from his boyfriend, Bernard. Bruce was incredibly supportive and gave Tim his blessing to focus on his happiness. I don’t know if this means we’ve seen the last of Tim as a hero, but it really seems like his time as Robin is done for good this time.
