DC Reveals New Costume and First Targets in Hush 2 Prelude

As a lifelong DC fan who’s seen more than a few Batman stories unfold, I must say that the anticipation for Hush 2 is palpable! The preview of Justice League Unlimited #1 has stirred up some intriguing speculation among us fans. The new look of Hush, with his sleek leather coat and armored costume, gives him a more menacing vibe that harkens back to the original story but feels fresh and updated.

As a devoted Batman fan, I can’t help but express my excitement over the upcoming “Hush 2” series. This twelve-issue epic, which has been captivating audiences for two decades now, is essentially Batman’s greatest hits compilation, focusing on the enigma of the new villain, Hush. The masterful collaboration between writer Jeph Loeb and artist Jim Lee, a dream team if ever there was one, took us on an unforgettable journey back then.

Reading Justice League Unlimited #1 is a must for DC enthusiasts, and the sneak peek of ‘Hush 2’ only enhances this delightful offering! The four-page preview offers a refresher on the character and introduces a change in Hush‘s attire – a new costume. Moreover, he seems to be compiling a list of potential targets, which appears to include members of the Batman family, hinting at his hideout. This setup is incredibly mysterious, mirroring the original tale’s atmosphere, but a closer look might offer clues about Hush’s initial acts of retaliation.

Hush’s Next Phase

The appearance of Hush has undergone a significant transformation compared to the past. His previous image was somewhat rundown, characterized by a worn-out trench coat, bandages, and a black and red getup beneath it. However, his latest look is much more polished. His new trench coat appears to be made of sleek black leather, an improvement over the old one. There’s distinct red trimming on the shoulders. Beneath this, his costume has been drastically altered from previous versions, adopting an armored aesthetic. It includes a red bandolier and a belt embellished with an H symbol. There’s something about Hush’s new costume that strongly evokes Batman, suggesting a possible shift in his character in this new narrative – a more martial demeanor, signifying the gravity with which he approaches things this time around.

During the introduction, Hush references Aristotle’s thoughts on tyrants while examining various game figures, each symbolizing a member of the Batman crew. First, he selects Batman’s figure, then proceeds to pick up others such as Huntress, Red Hood, Alfred, Catwoman, Gordon, Batgirl, Talia, and damages Damian’s piece carelessly. He also moves Nightwing’s figure. At the end of the story on a double-page spread, he pierces images of The Joker.

Upon closer examination, it appears that he’s returning to his old tactics, manipulating the pieces on the chessboard in an attempt to affect Batman. Two significant indicators suggest his strategy: the Robin who was crushed, and the Joker who was stabbed. Tommy Elliott targeting Damian aligns with this pattern; if his intention is indeed to harm Batman, then Damian presents the ideal target, as it taps into Hush’s animosity towards family and his envy of Bruce. It seems plausible that Batman is grooming his son to become a hero. Perhaps Hush yearns for that same relationship, or maybe he aims to corrupt Damian instead?

The act of attacking the Joker’s portrait is meaningful as well. Attempting to harm the Joker places Batman in a complex position, for he cannot condone the taking of the Joker’s life and will undoubtedly strive to rescue him. However, this endeavor often carries great risk since the Joker will retaliate if given an opportunity. The Joker might not be part of Batman’s biological family, but his thematic significance is considerable. Could it be that Hush is attempting to force Batman to decide whom he should save: Robin or the Joker?

Hush’s Next Attack Promises To Be A Shocker

The sneak peek for Hush 2 does a fantastic job of being mysterious yet profound. In the original story, Hush launched a complex attack against Batman, managing to sway everyone in his favor, and it appears this pattern will continue. Known for his skillful manipulation of situations and people, as suggested by this preview, Hush is a master at orchestrating events. The two key figures he targeted – crippling Robin and wounding the Joker – might indicate where his next attack begins: aiming at the foundations of Batman. Beyond being his son, Robin symbolizes Batman’s hope – the essential sidekick who is his successor, the upcoming generation. The Joker embodies Batman’s deepest fear. Pursuing Batman’s hope and his fear seems fitting for Hush’s character.

In his latest outfit, Hush appears more determined than ever. His costume design is thoughtful and battle-focused, reflecting his meticulous preparation. Despite its simplicity, it conveys a powerful message about his readiness for their upcoming encounter. Given that Hush has previously lost every fight against Batman, this heightened state of preparedness makes perfect sense. This new look serves as another hint at what’s to come. It seems that Hush has a strategy in place and is bracing himself for the full force of Batman’s attacks.
