A popular creative talent is now working on DC Studios’ upcoming Batman movie. James Gunn, who leads the DC Universe, has shared details about his plans for Batman, which include a major film called The Brave and the Bold. There’s also a horror movie focusing on the villain Clayface planned for next year, and separate Elseworlds stories, like the sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
Mark Simpson, the acclaimed comic artist known as Jock, is joining the creative team for DC’s upcoming Batman movie, Dynamic Duo. The film will center around two different characters taking on the role of Robin. Jock shared the news in a recent Popverse interview, confirming his involvement in the project.
Jock shared with the publication that he’s presently working on the DC comic ‘Dynamic Duo,’ and expressed his excitement to reveal what the team has been creating.
I’m working on a DC project called ‘Dynamic Duo.’ I came to New Orleans specifically to visit Swaybox Studios – they have studios here, and I’ve been doing design work for them. They’re incredibly talented, and I’m excited to show everyone what they’ve been creating.
Jock is a Scottish artist famous for his work in comics, television, and film. He’s contributed to popular projects such as the X-Men movies, Children of Men, and several DC Comics titles, including Batman, Nightwing, and Swamp Thing.
When asked about his role on Dynamic Duo, Jock simply stated he would be working on “visual development” and didn’t offer any further details.
I’ve been working on visual development, and it’s going really well. I can’t share too many details just yet, but it’s a perfect fit for my skills and I’m very excited about it.
He then explained how he joined the team for Dynamic Duo and how he first learned about Syawbox Studios, the company making the new film. He expressed his enthusiasm for the movie, saying, “I’ve been fortunate to work on many projects, but this one is particularly exciting.”
I received a completely unexpected email from them about a ‘Batman puppet film,’ which immediately piqued my interest. The email included a link to their showreel on the Swaybox website, and I was incredibly impressed. Their work is amazing, and seeing their unique style applied to the Batman universe is truly captivating. I’ve been fortunate to work on many projects, but this one feels different – I think it has the potential to be something truly special. That’s why I spent a week with them in New Orleans a few weeks ago.
I’m just blown away by what they’re creating! He explained that the final result will be an incredible mix of so many different art forms – think animation, puppetry, and computer-generated imagery all coming together. I honestly can’t express how excited I am to see it all!

Swaybox Studios is creating a new DC animated film called Dynamic Duo. This movie will feature a team-up of former Batmans, Jason Todd and Dick Grayson, in a visually unique adventure using a combination of stop-motion, computer animation, and puppetry. Dynamic Duo is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 30, 2028.
Everything We Know About DC Studios’ Batman Plans
The upcoming film Dynamic Duo is part of a larger plan for Batman movies at DC Studios. Several Batman-related projects are already being developed, both within and outside of the main DC Universe.
The movie Dynamic Duo, planned for release in 2028, will focus on the stories of two of Batman’s previous partners. However, it’s currently unclear if the film will be officially part of the new DC Universe (DCU) storyline.
A year before that, Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II, starring Robert Pattinson, will be released. This sequel exists outside of the main DC Universe storyline, which many fans are excited about. In this new film, Pattinson’s Batman will face a threat that is said to be more personal than any he’s encountered before.
Fans are eagerly anticipating The Brave and the Bold, which will be the first Batman movie set within James Gunn’s newly established DC Universe. Andy Muschietti, who directed The Flash, is directing, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Next year, audiences will finally get a first look at the DCU’s take on Gotham City. The series Clayface, created by horror master Mike Flanagan, promises to be a terrifying and visually disturbing experience, taking inspiration from classic horror films like The Thing and The Fly as much as from the DC Comics source material.
